Tips to Increase Your Blog and Website Traffic

Great tips and advice to help you pull in a steady flow of traffic to your website or blog!

Anyone who runs their own website or blog can relate when I say traffic is essential if you're looking to be successful and make money or promote a product. However, when in the beginning steps many people find themselves at a loss on how to pull in a steady flow of daily traffic. Below you will find advice and tips on how to begin increasing the number of viewers on your website. Please take into consideration however that these things can take time. Building a successful site takes dedication and effort; things will not fall into place on their own.

  1. Post content that people will be interested in.

Although you may find the process of mold growth fascinating, this may not be a wise choice to being in a higher traffic flow. Try to find things that interest you, yet are popular in today's society. There is no use writing about something if you aren't feeling it as well. When an author pushes to write about something they have no interest in, the content tends to be dull and lacking; coming off as more of an essay style than something entertaining to read about.
  2. Make your blog or site eye appealing and easy to navigate through.

I would advise placing categories or navigation links towards the top of the page so it is user friendly for viewers to get to the content they desire. I can personally say that if a website is too cluttered or I cannot find my way around, I will take my viewing elsewhere. This is the ‘World Wide Web' and no matter what type of content you aim towards, it is very likely you will have competition with other sites as well. You want to ensure that you stand out. Keep the look and feel of the site interesting.

  3. This tip is aimed mainly towards bloggers since many of the networks may not allow you to register if you are not a legit blog. You may join communities such as Blog Catalog or MyBlogLog. These are networks which consist of many fellow bloggers and allow you to interact, browse, and promote yourself. Blog Catalog I know from experience is a wonderful way to get your site noticed. There are many groups you may join which enable you to promote your blog and its content.
  4. Check Out Entrecard.

This website is very nice for pulling in new viewers to your website. It will take a little elbow grease on your end as you will need to actually work a little to promote yourself here. However, the efforts do pay off! On Entrecard you are able to add your website's advertisement for free onto other sites and blogs.

  5. If you want to avoid investing much time into promotion and have money to spare, you may want to check out sites such as Project Wonderful. You can purchase AD space on other websites for as low as $0.01 per day! This may help in getting your site noticed. I would advise to only focus on promoting yourself on blogs and sites which are already receiving high traffic. There is really no point to pay for advertisement on a website which has barely any visitors coming in each day.
  6. Add an RSS feed button to your website or blog.

Many blogs will have this feature already enabled for you, all you will need to do is place it onto the site where viewers can see it and subscribe. An RSS feed will keep subscribers up to date with all of your latest posts.
  7. Take part in link exchanges.

These can be greatly beneficial to both parties as it is another opportunity for visitors on another's website to hop over to yours. A bit of advice if you plan to do this would be to keep your exchanged links related to content on your site. For example; if you have a blog dedicated to celebrities, you'll want to exchange links with sites that revolve around celebrities, television, movies, etc. This helps to ensure that visitors on their site have higher odds of being interested in your webpage as well.
  8. Take part in websites such as Technorati and Spicy Page.

It never fails that people love to see high votes on their websites. By taking part in sites such as the mentioned two, you will have more opportunities for visitors. In many networking communities you'll see that people will often post about exchanging votes - i.e.; you visit their site and vote for them, and they will do the same for you. It's a good way to get new viewers coming to your site. You never know when that person going to view your site will become a loyal visitor who checks back often.
  9. Add key words.

For some of you who are savvier with alteration of your sites source, I would recommend that you add keywords which relate to your site, but will also pull in traffic from search engines. You may be able to search for a program which will help create Meta tags for you at no charge. Blogs may have a section where you can place keywords in easily. Utilizing search engines will be a very good way to pull in traffic - this may even be the main source so be sure to choose keywords that are catchy and suit your content!

Overall there are many ways on the internet to increase your traffic. Put in the effort, build up the content, and they will come. It's always helpful if you don't have a way to see your daily site hits internally, place a counter somewhere on your site that doesn't interfere with the layout. This way you can check in to see how well you're doing. Some counters have settings to where you can see only the unique visitors (This means that it will only count people on their first time visiting you.) I hope some of these tips can help you in some form to see an increase in your website traffic. Don't give up! Patience will be a key factor.
