A blog is a form of online public journals, about anything under the sun. They can tell someone's life history to how to wash a dog. Moreover, they are fun. If you want to learn how to write a blog, I have listed the steps you need to take. In following these steps you will be on your way to a successful blog!
Find a Blog Site
Choose one that appears to be "User Friendly" for you. I've known a lot of people who have started a blog (including myself) that didn't know a single thing about making their site individual to them so check out the blog you have chosen. If it looks a little hard to create, and navigate the blog site and you're confused, then don't use that site. You will probably try several blog sites before you chose the one you like. I chose for my blog sites, Blogger.com and squidoo.com. They are both basically easy for what my needs are.
Choose what type of blog you want to create. Find your niche and pick a catchy title that captures the essence of your blog. Remember that a blog, like your clothes is an extension of you. Most people may only identify you by your blog and you want to be sure that how you are on the inside be reflected on the outside.
Some claim that you need to post at least once every day. Others day that three quick posts a day are far more effective than one long post every three days. Then again, others claim that when they post to their blog every other day they get more readers than when updating two or three entries in a single day. What ever you chose to do, remember that for most bloggers, it's all about reading and many of them would prefer content rather than quality. Once you have started your blog, you'll find that you attract a certain readership, and you may have to adjust your work of your journal to appease and keep the reader's you've obtained.
Some people recommend that you put together about a months worth of material together before you tell anyone about your blog. My recommendation is to just start writing and fame will come in time. You can always go back and rewrite entries to make everything just the way you want before or after you "go public." You can edit any entry at any time with most blog sites. Writing a popular blog doesn't happen over night. The jest of the blog stems from journaling which means the blog is for you. Work it however you want.
When you're ready, only you will know when that is, tell your friends and family about your blog and ask them to tell their friends. If you use it as another way to network with those people around you, you'll get a better response. Don't push to hard or you will get a surprise, they are ignoring your blog because they feel you're fishing for compliments and attention. Remember, blogging is about you, and the more attention you put into yourself, the more people are going to notice.
Check out other blogs on the Internet that you would be interested in their topics. Read and post to them religiously. Leave notes that actually has something to do with their site so that they know you actually took the time to pay attention to the material posted; don't expect anything back in return. Just commenting will cause others to more than likely visit yours and do the same. Often when you post a comment to someone else's, a link to your own blog site will already be included with your comment, unless you are posting from one hosting site to another.
Build a network with other people in the blogosphere. Make new friends online. This is the best way to get readers to your site and a great way to meet people you would otherwise never know. If you get one thing from blogging, this will be it.
Here are a few tips:
There are 3 basic types of blogs: a personal journal, a "link" blog, and a reporting blog. Successful blogs find a niche and stick with it. Is there something in your life you want to share? Are you an expert in some field of knowledge? Find your passion and your reason for starting the blog, and go for it.
Personal blogs are sometimes the hardest to do, even if you are a brilliant writer. Quarrels have started because of information that was published in a personal blog .The key is to only use first names if permission is given, if not, use the first initial of the person, and never use last names. Feeling can get hurt or someone may get into trouble so either don't post it at all or do it privately (you are the only reader). Remember the blog is about you, not gossip.
HTML, believe it or not, is far easier than Spanish or French you learned in high school. HTML is your friend. There are thousands of site out there that you can learn HTML from. Blogger.com has a help section that can teach you all you need to know.
Remember you can be anonymous to most readers. This is one great aspects of blogging. No one has to know who you are! If you want you can even make up a fictional name. However, always be nice and polite so everyone has fun.
