Bloggers Beware: Social Networking Can be Hazardous to Your Career

In this modern world of technology with all its online networking opportunities, blogging has become one of today's most popular forms of expression. What use to be considered simply an on-line journal has turned into a growing social networking trend.

These days, blogs can be found with topics ranging from news, pop culture, commentary, causes or even specific trades. There are literally millions of blogs on the Internet.

For most, blogging is considered a hobby, something that is done within the conveniences of personal time. Sometimes this hobby leads to a small profitable business on the side, but generally speaking, blogging is used to exercise creative freedom of expression.

Unfortunately, blogging is not understood by all and some may be shocked or upset upon discovery of a blog. This labor of love and expression could also be hazardous to your career ultimately leading to unemployment. The number of individuals discharged for hosting a blog site continually grows each day.

Instead of giving up this satisfying right, blogging should be done with caution. In order to avoid unmerited retaliation discretion is advised. One of the best ways to maintain discretion is to blog anonymously. By omitting personal information from a blog site such as name, photos and specific “inside” details the blog creator successfully balances expression with privacy. But anonymity goes further than just personal information. If complete confidentially is imperative, than concealing the computer's IP address is crucial. Another method for successfully maintaining equilibrium between employment and blogging is to never blog at work. Blogging should only be conducted on personal time. Updating a blog site while at work, even during lunch can be a sure fire detriment to ones career. Lastly, never use company property to update a blog. Resources such as a computer, or internet connection are the intellectual property of the employer and using those could lead to trouble.

These days, blogs are getting quite a bit of attention. Blogging should be an enjoyable, creative purge and this right should not be hazardous to your career. In order to avoid receiving a pink slip blog anonymously in a smart and cautious manner.
