We can see multiple connections between group blogging and social web services. First of all, we can use social networks to solve some problems associated with group blogging.
Gathering a team to work on group blogging project can be very difficult task. With social networks, we can narrow down number of potential candidates. By checking profile pages it is often possible to find useful information about user, his (hers) interests and experience.

Social networks may be useful for another reason. More people, each having one account on some social network can easier generate buzz about project. Let's take Digg as an example. If group blogging project has seven authors and each of them has different Digg account, every project post will have seven votes from the start and will easily jump from upcoming stories to main Digg page, which means a lot of traffic. Please note that since every author has its own account, this is not against site's TOS.
This simple but useful strategy can be used with other social networks and social bookmarking services as well.
