When blogging, what is the first thing you need to do? Find your topic and you are well on your way. The topic should be interesting, informative and inspirational. It should grab your readers heart and shake it to the core. I believe the aesthetics of your blog are key as well.
Aesthetics is defined by wikipedia as the way something is perceived, usually and most often it is related to art. A boring blog will drive the reader mad, you must keep them enthralled in what they are reading at all times.

- Creativity and thought
- Longevity (Is the information in the blog going to be useful to the reader for days, months or even years to come?)
