Pros and Cons of Blogging

Pros and cons of blogging are explained in detail.

Without any doubt, blogging has become an immensely popular activity these days. Many of you might be maintaining a blog or probably thinking of starting one in near future. As with everything else in life, blogging too has some pros and cons.

Pros

  • It is very easy to maintain a blog and it is very easy to start a blog in the first place. You don't need to be an expert to run a blog as you don't need to learn HTML or anything to that point. Above all it is free to start and maintain.
  • One can write about literally anything in their blog. You can write about your dream, or about your dog, or about the recipe of the dish you had for dinner. There are no limitations about what you write or how you write.
  • If you have an online business, then blogging definitely helps in promoting your products. You can maintain a loyal and stronger relation with the clients by posting useful information regularly on your blog. Since search engines scan the blogs daily, you will reach a larger number of people.
  • With the help of comments, you can get a feed back from the people who use your products or who read your posts. This helps in modifying your organization to suit the needs.
  • Blog is an excellent way of sharing knowledge within the organization. You can provide your thoughts about a subject while others provide their knowledge on the same. This increases the knowledge data base and helps you or others in learning new things.
  • Though a little, blogs can help you in earning money. If your blog gets popular, you can display relevant ads on the blog and you earn little money every time a person reads your blog.

Cons

  • Blogs are easy to start and hard to maintain. They are cheap to start but they become expensive by consuming your time. If you stop writing posts after few days, no one reads your blog and all the time you spent on it will be wasted. Your organization loses faith in people.
  • If you don't write what you have to say in a compelling and clear manner, your blog has a less chance of getting popular and so does your organization or business. Thus it results in damaging rather than enhancing the reputation of the organization or business.
  • Since anyone can comment on the blog, an anonymous person may write rude things over your organization or business which affects it's reputation. This reduces your confidence and interest towards your work.
  • If you don't self censor your posts, you may end up apologizing to people and making changes to your posts at a later time.

Pros and cons are par and parcel of any thing. One should take advantage of the benefits and try to reduce the disadvantages.
