Submitting Blogs

It is true that submitting a blog to the search engines is in many ways similar to submitting your website; but what you should keep in mind there are a number of differences as well.

If you familiarize yourself with these differences, you can get your blog indexed faster because you have been able to submit your blog correctly.

If your preferred search engine is Google , you should create a sitemap regardless of whether you are submitting a blog or a website. After you have submitted your blog to Google, you do not need to submit again. Still, you should check periodically to make sure Google is not encountering any problems with your site map. All you are required to do is keep your sitemap updated. In case you are using a blog like Word press, you can install the sitemap plugin. This will update your sitemap automatically and notify Google that your site has changed. If you do not have a software for creating site maps, do not worry. Google will offer you plenty of free tools to generate your own sitemap. You can add your site to Google even if you do not have a sitemap. However, you won't get detailed statistics in this case.

Because Google will not allow direct submission to its blog search, you have to make sure that you submit your site to blog directories Google will then pull results from for its blog search, and then make sure you ping these sites when you update your blog. You can take the help of sites like Feed Shot to submit your site to some of the major blog directories. In that case, you will only need to ping your blog to update it at these directories.

If you want to submit to Yahoo , you should submit your site feed instead of a sitemap. This is where you can submit your blog to Yahoo . Rather than submitting your site, you should use the first block and submit your feed. You must also add your blog feed to your My Yahoo page. This will get your blog added faster and also get it included in Yahoo's version of blog search. You will need an account to submit to both Google and Yahoo. This account is free.

Among the big search engines, MSN is entirely different in the way that you need to submit to get your blog included. You are free to submit directly to MSN to be included. You won't require an account, but you will be required to submit manually because you will need to enter the characters on the page to make sure your submission request goes through. MSN will also provide you with an alternative that will help you get your entire blog included in its site results. It will be better if you submit your blog to Moreover. If your site is included in Moreover, it should be included in MSN as MSN draws a lot of results from Moreover.

Once you've submitted your blog to them, your next step is to ping your blog each time that you post to it. Before you ping your blog for the first time, you must glance through the list of blog directories. You should ensure that you have submitted your blog to each of the directories listed. Remember also that some of the ping sites listed may not relate to your blog.
