A well known and deserving of its status blog publishing platform that you don't have to be a rocket fuel scientist to set up and operate. The name WordPress was suggested by Cristine Selleck and it is the official successor of b2cafelog with a large thriving community. This is one of the most well-known and most powerful open source blogging packages. It is a fantastic simple platform and I love using it. I would best describe it as a personal publishing system with a difference and a powerful tool for the online business owner.
There is one thing however, that should be clear, and it is likely to confuse many people; it is the difference between Wordpress.com
and Wordpress.org
. The two are not the same, except, that both are platforms. Wordpress.org is a free blogging software application, that you need a WebHost while WordPress.com is a blogging service that includes hosting but with several limitations. The version you choose dependents upon how much control you want to have over your blog. The easiest way to get started with WordPress is to just go to WordPress itself. There is a large and active community there.
The latest versions in WordPress 2.0. or higher, are free, easy to install and there are many website hosts that now offer it pre installed. Here you will be able to compose a post and immediately publish it on your website. WordPress is completely customizable and can be used for almost anything. This is what you use when you want to work together with your blogging software, not to argue with it. It is written in PHP, requires a MySQL database, and is available under the GPL. Installation consists of downloading the zipped files, creating a MySQL database and user for the blog and editing the configuration file. WordPress is malleable enough that you can tweak it to suit your ever-changing needs. This Popular blog it is also a great tool when it comes to doing work with images.
There are many places online to obtain themes for WordPress and besides the free ones; there are also some themes for sale. There are about a thousand available, the Themes continue to trickle in but sadly it's been a while since I've seen any good new themes. However, one of the really good things about is that anyone can create themes and they are pretty easy to download and change. WordPress Plugins; there are more than a thousand plugins, and as with themes there's a face behind each and every contribution. WordPress Plugins is where you need go if you want to see all the best plugins and all of them in one place. It is offering advance options to the blogger and among others, the management and insertion of the Google AdSense
I have come to the conclusion that I'm officially addicted to Wordpress with its themes and plugins. If you're concerned about what your blog looks like, go with WordPress. And I think that the evidence makes this a fairly objective conclusion. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.
