Avoiding Chain Mail

A short guide on avoiding chain mail.

Are you sick and tired of getting junk mail in your inbox which you think are just chain letters? Well, if that's the case, send this link to your friends and show them this guide o inform them.

So here is my guide to checking out whether something is the real deal, or if some prankster is just yanking your chain.

  1. Is the Spelling Correct?

It's the easiest way to tell if an email is genuine. Anyone can say they are Bill Gates from Microsoft, or the directors of MSN. However, if they are who they say they are, they would have run a few spell checks on the email first, as they wouldn't want to end up with egg on their faces!
  2. Are there Any Logos?

Usually, (not always) in an official e-mail stating a change in a company, there would be that companies logos around the email. Check to make sure they are legitimate, by right clicking the image, clicking “properties” copying the URL code, and pasting into the URL bar at the top of your page. Following the link, does it look real?
  3. Does it Tell you to Forward the Message?

If the message is from a big email hosting company, why would they want you to forward it? They can do it themselves!
  4. Does it Warn of Impending Doom?

Why would an article threaten you when it can be done anyway. How would forwarding a message save the company in mention?
  5. Does it Warn of Impending Doom?

Most importantly, pass this link on in your emails! This guide can save email hosting companies hundreds of pounds of saved bandwidth, as well as your email account. I have heard of some cases where if too many chain letters were forwarded, your account would be suspended!
    So send this link:
    *insert link here*
To all your friends and family, and please, don't forward these annoying, time consuming letters.

Thanks.

I agree, chain mails are a nuisance and a waste of time. We need more people to realize this and join in the anti-chain mails war.
