Send Text Messages From Your Email Account

Now you can send anyone a text message right from your desktop or laptop computer.

With the advancement of technology it is possible to stay in touch with anyone, anywhere in the world. Between cell phones, PDAs, Blackberries, of course the Internet, and a slew of other electronic devices, now you can call home whenever you want.

Not many people know this but you can actually send text messages to someone's cell phone, or even to your own cell phone from an email account. Crazy isn't it!?

It is as simple as opening up your Outlook (or whatever tool you use), typing in where to send it (I will get to more on that in a moment), a subject line, your message and then click on send. Of course normal text messaging rates apply, to the person receiving the message, so if they are not on an unlimited text messaging plan, you should hold off on bombarding them with a ton of messages.

Here is how it works. Find your recipient's provider in the list below and make not of the address you need to use:

Carrier Address

Cingular @cingularme.com
Verizon @vtext.com
T-Mobile @tmomail.net
Nextel @messaging.nextel.com
Sprint @messaging.sprintpcs.com
Virgin Mobil @vmobl.com

Now open up your email and compose a new message. This article assumes that you know how to send an email.

In the “To” field type in the cell phone number of the recipient followed by the provider address from the list above.

For example, if your friend is a Verizon customer, the “To” field would look like:

6095551212@vtext.com

Then fill in the subject line on your email and then a message. Finally click the send button and you are done.

It really is that simple!
