Search Engine Marketing or SEM promotes websites and increases traffic by increasing the website's visibility using SERPs commonly known as serach engine result pages. It involves click costs unlike other marketing methods. SEM is becoming extremely popular in today's internet savvy socity. Advertisers actually spend billions of dollars each year on Search Engine Marketing or SEM. Growing rapidly in the marketing industry it is surpassing traditional advertising. It is considered to be a very useful business tool. Search Engine Marketing or SEM involves the three common elements of search engine optimization, paid placement, and paid inclusion. Search engines with SEM programs include Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft Live, Ask.com, Baidu, Yandex, and Rambler.
How does SEM work? Search Engine Marketing has two major steps. The two major steps of improving ranking by search engine optimization and the process of purchasing paid listings is what makes SEM an effective marketing tool. Search engine optimization is the optimization of your website by having the proper keywords and guidelines that give you higher page rank in search engines. In the first step of SEM they make sure your site is optimized to its full potential. This process involves making sure your site has correct “meta tags”, adding new copy with a thorough edit, multiple links to other sites, and submission to all suitable search engine directories. Paid listings is the second and final step in SEM.
Paid listings guarantee a site to be listed when an individual puts in a certain search term or keyword. Generally, the higher your paid ad listing is on a page the more it will cost. This step process focuses on obtaining the right keywords and getting the best ad placement. The web ad copy must be detailed. What is your marketing goal? What are you trying to achieve? Knowing the precise keywords your targeted audience will be using is also very important. There are SEM firms and professionals that can assist you in finding the keywords that will bring in the most traffic and the proper ads to list. There should always be caution when selecting the ad links. You have to be sure your keyword ad links correspond to your specific website and the type of traffic or customer you are trying to achieve.
Ad links or listings that do not match with your site and what you are trying to promote will throw consumers off. The page will look junkie and seem like a scam. Always be aware of how your pages appear to others. It is all about the flow and quality. Remember, the less clutter and clicking an individual has to do the more likely they are to buy from your site. Research your pay per click ad rankings. Bid for ad quality and watch the volumes of your competitors. It is beneficial to advertise with rewarding search engines such as Yahoo and Google. If you make sure the proper keywords appear in the title and description line in your paid listing ad SEM will work wonders for your site.
