Work From Home Scams

Beware of work from home scams: These scams have been around forever but they're still finding new victims.

Please be aware that while their are many legitimate ways to make money online their are also many scams. One of your fist clues that something is not what it appears to be is a claim of lots of cash fast for little to no real work. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Have you seen the ads, "Make hundreds of dollars daily processing emails from home"? You check out their website only to find that you have to pay a membership fee or a fee for training materials. If you sign up for one of these "opportunities" you are most likely going to get instructions to place your own ads that are exactly like the ad you responded to. Then, when people who respond to your ad pay their membership fee you get a cut of their money.

This is a classic pyramid scheme. Their is no actual product being sold. All of the income comes from new memberships. Eventually new memberships taper off and the people at the bottom of the pyramid loose their money. This scam is a twist on the age old "envelope stuffing" scam.

With the envelope stuffing scam you also pay a fee for your "materials". What you get for your money is instructions to place the same ad that you responded to and then wait for people to send you a self addressed stamped envelope and the fee for their "materials" to get started making money from home. As with "email processing" their is no product being sold.

A legitimate company should tell you upfront what their product is. They should not need to collect your personal information or your money before telling you exactly what they are selling.

It is always a good idea to do your homework on a company before you decide to send them a dime of your hard earned cash. One way to do this is threw the Better Business Bureau's website at bbb.org.

Another way to learn more about company's that claim you can make allot of money with them is to search the company's name on Google or Yahoo or whatever your favorite search program is. Type in the name of the company in question as well as words like "scam", "rip off" etc. That way you'll see if other people are complaining about them and why.

You work hard for your money: Its always wise to do some research before parting with it.
