Online Shopping

How to shop online and avoid fraud.

Many people use online shops to buy stuff from nowadays. Most of them are safe and easy to use, but there is always the possibility of ending up in a fraud; you pay but you receive nothing or you get something else you ordered.

When looking for a new shop there are things to pay attention on; the signs might be the only thing that saves your money from getting into the hands of a criminal.

The Signs

When you first arrive to a new online shop; look around and see if there seems to be something wrong with the page. The page might have several flaws which includes spelling mistakes, bad user interface, no encryption used etc. Just look for anything that gives you a bad feeling about the page and move on to the next possible job.

Do not be deceived by good offers and sales; the shops exist to make profit out of it, and if something seems too good to be true it usually is. Of course there will be sales and such in most of the online stores, but sometimes having lots of sales; otherwise cheap stuff for sale is suspicious.

Before going on the purchase phase; check if there are any reviews or complaints about the online shop in the internet. The experiences from other people are priceless for a new client; they often tell the truth, but do not believe everything that they say.

The Purchase

The time has come; you decide to purchase something from a new online store. The best advice for the purchase is to use something that is secured against fraud, like credit cards, so that in case you ended up being cheated on you can always get your money back. To make the first experience as good as you can, you should purchase something simple first; nothing that is worth of thousands of dollars, or any amount of money that might get you into trouble if you do not receive the item you want to purchase. The higher the cost of the item; the higher the risk will be.

After a successful purchase you will have your own experience about the shop; the way they deliver and maybe even the customer service. With your own experience you can decide yourself if it is worth buying more stuff from this online shop or not.

The Fraud

Nevertheless, you might end up in a fraud. Using credit cards make it simple, as you can always call the credit card company, explain your situation as well as you can, and they should take care of it; however, before calling them make sure that it is an actual fraud and not just a human mistake by the side of the shop. In other words you need to make contact with the shop you used and have them explain them to you; without a reasonable excuse or without successful contact, you should just contact your credit card company.

Hopefully you did use a credit card or something that can be easily reversed; otherwise, the chance of you seeing your money again might be rather small. Credit card companies are very loyal to the customers and help them in situations like this; the customers bring profit to them by using the cards, so they do not want to scare the people not to use the cards. Whatever you do in the end; stay calm and try to think reasonable and logically what to do. If there is no one else that can help you, or anything else you could do to get your money back‘; the police is the last option you will have. Go to the police and explain the situations and they will be able to offer the help you need to solve the problem. Hopefully they will be able to give you your money back; just do not bring big hopes for that.

Final Words

First time online shoppers should stay with known big online shops; until receive enough experience in the online shopping area to actually start to look around without having too high risk of ending up cheated.

Online shopping is a great way to do business in; however, the fact that it will be even easier to cheat the money out of people's pockets makes it scary for many people. The risk of being cheated the money is very slim; if followed the advice given by more experience online shoppers.

With this guide I want to help people who have been unsure about online shopping and to make their lives easier by gaining the pleasure of online shopping. I wish you all nice time online shopping.
