Five Steps to Creating Your First Online Photo Album

Start sharing your photo masterpieces today with an online photo album.

If you have never before created an online photo album, there are some simple tips that you can use to make the process easier and more pleasant. From choosing the right online photo album host to organizing your photos, here are some simple tips to help get you up and sharing:

  1. Choose the host. Every online photo album is hosted on a server. There are many companies that host online photo albums for free or for a fee for people. Each of these companies, such as Kodak Gallery and Snapfish, offer different features for their users.

For example, some photo sharing hosts will allow users to have private photo albums for a small fee so that their photos are only accessible by friends with passwords. Other photo album hosts will allow users to have their own Web domains.

Therefore, it is important to do some research into what you want from your photo album host and then to find which hosts will meet those desires.
  2. Sort your photos. It is unlikely that you will want to share every photo that you take in your online photo album. Therefore, be sure to sort your photos so that you can not only keep track of your photos, but also so that you can determine which photos you want to upload to your photo album. Careful sorting will make the uploading process easier and faster.
  3. Organize your online photo album. Just because you organize your photos on your computer or storage device does not mean that they will automatically be sorted when they are uploaded to your photo album. In fact, many photo album hosts will allow you to create separate photo albums for separate occasions.

Therefore, before you upload your photos to your photo album, be sure that you have created appropriate photo albums online for each of your topics. For example, one photo album could be titled, "50th Birthday Party," and another could be titled "Little League." Each of these albums will contain different types of photos. The photos will be uploaded separately as well.

  1. Upload photos to the appropriate photo album. Again, this must be done only after you have created the photo albums that you would like to use.
  2. Obtain the URL or username for your photo albums. You may need to read through the user guide for the photo sharing Web site that you select in order to determine how to share your photos, as each photo sharing Web site has a different system.

For example, some systems allow you to send your username to friends. Your friends can then log into the photo album host, input your username and access your photos. Other photo album hosts will give you your own URL, which you can then pass around to friends and family.

Creating online photo albums is fun once you get started. Keep in mind that every photo sharing Web site is different and that you should always read the full instructions and privacy policy before getting started so that you can be sure that you understand the system.
