The cyber dimension of the modern world, better known as “The Internet” has been such an advancement of technology. Now-a-days people can visit different parts of the world just by using a computer without the hassle of physical exhaustion and stress. It also made most of our daily tasks like paying bills and banking as simple as a few clicks on the mouse.
With the boom of the internet of the computer age came the convenience of chat messengers created by different web domains as today's most in demand method of cost-free communication, keeping friends and family in touch wherever they may be and meeting new people just by entering “chat rooms”, where people from around the world gather to socialize and interact. One of the most well-known messenger of today is the Yahoo! Messenger of Yahoo! Inc. Regretfully despite of its many benefits, this space of open communication has a very jagged, deadly downfall. Because of the reality of being far and unseen, there are some individuals who take this as a weapon to deceive, lie, and pretend on unsuspected preys, victims of deception of whatever persona they had chosen to project as a mask of their identity.
I have been introduced to this world somewhere back in September of the year 2005 by cousins abroad. In my short stay in one of the most known controversial chat rooms put together by local and international, overseas Filipinos, I came to realize that the chat world has distinct similarities with the world of the two-way radio that stormed the Philippines during the early 90's. Its environment and style was the same, a “past time” to kill time and enjoy. It is also an open playground for some individuals seeking for easy and unserious romance, jumping from one girlfriend/boyfriend after the other, which in any way is like juggling with blades that eventually stabs hard on its foolish players.
Nevertheless, in this world where lies and games often rule, the power of Cupid's arrows still triumph as true real love and friendship are found also in this cyber world known as “chat”, though its instances are rare and hard to find because of its deceiving nature. But in love's law, regardless on how two people had met, as long as trust, openness, and respect prevail between lovers nothing and no one could pull them apart. However, the strength of true love is tried and tested through time and trials they overcome. I, myself had found the greatest love my life had ever known through this cyber dimension two months after I was influenced by relatives to use chat as a means of “keeping in touch” Although I haven't seen my “North Star” yet. He is like the wind, I don't see but I know and feel he is there. Like all commitments brought together in the reality of life and love, it takes patience, understanding and perseverance for love to survive the cyclones of fate.
Like everything in life, the cyber dimension has its pros and cons. Sadly, most people disregard the devastation of its misuse. Personally, I think the use of the cyber dimension and its perks like “chatting” and “web surfing” varies on the true personality, upbringing, and purpose or motives of its users. Because even though we are unseen, “Whatever we sow, we always shall reap.”
