Build It, They Will Come
Get a simple, professional-looking website. There are plenty of website building resources. Some are user-friendly and have one-page templates. Other resources are a bit more complicated, but offer more flexibility for those of you who know a little about html and other web code. Either way, professionalism and simplicity is key.
Free For All
Offer something of value free. Just be sure that what you are offering relates to what your site is all about, otherwise it will smell like a cheap sales trick. For example, if someone googles “wedding pictures” and comes to visit your site “weddings_by_lesley.com”, you may want to offer something like 250 free miniature poem scrolls. The poem scrolls would be used as wedding favors, since you know your visitors are brides or grooms.
Change Is Coming
As a website builder, I recommend changing your site at least once a month. Drastic changes are not necessary. Simple things can be done, like adding a calendar to your website that highlights to current day, adding a visitors counter to let others know how popular your site is, adding a random quote generator (click here for an example). In fact, the simpler the better.
To make your website traffic stick around, have a professional and uncomplicated website with at least one freebie and something that the visitor can look forward to see change the next time he or she visits.
