The Reason
I do not know the reason for Internet relationships, I only know the reason I became involved in one. I could guess and say that the reason being is that it is the easiest way to be able to approach someone that you like. The whole image thing doesn't have to be there, we could describe ourselves and yet we don't have to worry about the way we look, or really look.
True feelings become part of your conversation when talking to a honest person through a chat room. The person that you are speaking to gets to know you on who you are and is not based on what you look like. Appearance plays a role in the attractiveness to your partner, but online dating can remove that factor until you are ready to explore that part of the relationship.

. These sites can look so tempting and than the advertisers bring in people that America trusts like Dr. Phil. This sort of dating is commercialized everywhere! T.V's, Billboards and even through books. The problem is that a lot of people get involved with others FAR away from them causing them to have a Long Distance Relationship or a LDR.
The Pros
Mainly the good part of this kind of relationship is the mile barrier that you two have to withstand. Chances are you will have to find a way to be closer to each other and accommodate both your lives to your liking, this WILL take time. The worry and the jealousy may kick in depending on what your mind feels about the faithfulness of your partner, but during this away time you learn to strengthen yourself and it betters your relationship because you can see how faithful you are both to each other.
The Cons
There is a lot to be worried about during this sort of relationship, you have to remember that you DO NOT know this person. A person might be in the thought that since you know them online you know them as a person, but that is not the truth at all. This person has not yet seen you or has gotten the chance to be intimate with you not sexually but physically as an example: Kissing or holding hands.
Living with this person may strengthen your views of him or her or it might deflate the whole purpose of your love, They can LIE. Age and features can all be changed just by the press of a couple keys BE CAUTIOUS. If you are going to take part in this sort of relationship remember to use your brains think before you act, play it safe and be safe. DO NOT get lost in emotions, stand your ground and use your head!
