Whyville, a virtual tween world, holds many educational yet fun games and concepts. Whyville was launched as a focus on Science especially to girls aged 8 to 15. Now the Whyville community has grown to over 2 million citizens from all over the world to come together with one goal-to learn ahd have fun simultaneously. You may think it's such a kiddy site and boring. That's exactly what I thought until I gave it a try. Whyville, on the contrary, is a very addictive site. It lets you chat, converse with other Whyvillians, send a Y-mail, and so much more. Wait. I know what you're thinking. How is this safe for kids? Whyville has a chat filtering system that has a limit on what can be said. This way, Whyvillians are protected from giving out personal information.
Whyville is a lot like reality. You can run for senator, own a house or rent, own a scion( a type of Whyville car) and earn clams. Clams are Whyville currency. You play fun and educational games and as you play, you raise your salary. Not only that, but also, you can design your own Whyvillian. There's so much more!
When I first signed up for Whyville, I had that blue head and basically I looked like a nobody. But then, I started playing the games and soon my salary increased from 6 clams to 107 clams. The games aren't that hard. It just takes time and patience, and a simple knowledge of how things work. My next target was to design my character. It took me several tries until I found exactly what I needed to look like. In a few months, I was able to get a loan and buy my very own scion. Now, I am on the verge of paying off my loan, which is not that hard considering that I have a very high salary. With all this done, I am now planning on to be a Y-Mail Helper. You see, there is so much to do on Whyville that you never get bored.
When you use obscene or inappropriate languages, you get taped. This way, you cannot chat for a certain days depending on how bad it was. Also, you have the right to silence or vaporize someone if they are bothering you. You can also 911 someone-only if it's necessary. Otherwise, abusing this tool can result in serious consequences. You would use the 911 tool if it's something serious, like someone asking you for your password or personal information. In Whyville, you are basically away from potential harm or danger. Let's just say that Whyville is the next MySpace or FaceBook.
Whyville is not just for kids. There are also adults there. There are City Workers, which are adults directly working with Whyville around the area. They are there to protect you and help you. You can tell if someone is a City Worker by the yellow beanie hat they are wearing.
Whyville also has it's own newspaper, Whyville Times. You can submit articles and if it's good, you can get it published in Whyville's newspaper. So you see, Whyville is just this awesome, fun and safe place to have fun, meet new people from all over the world and learn something about Science and Math. Hope to see you there.
