Kung Fu

This gif is wonderful - I could watch it again and again! Two Kung Fu martial artists go through their paces with stunning Chinese scenery in the background. Could be useful on a Kung Fu site to show the novice how it is done! A sequence of eighteen moves with the haolin Monastery Wushu Institute at Tagou in the background.

Death of the Goonie

Did you hate the fat kid from The Goonies. Here we can finally see him dispatched to Goonie Heaven by that old favorite of ours, Captain Jean Luc Picard. Finally, someone had the get up and go to do what we have all wanted to do for so many years! Go, Jean Luc, go!

Bored at the Airport

Ever been well and truly bored at the airport? Then why not try this? Take a lot of pictures of yourself on the escalator, and then create a cool animated gif out of them when you get home. That is if you don't get arrested by airport security for being strange, scary and mad not to mention upsetting the other passengers!

Endless

Join us on the endless circle of life as a young girl is born, grows up and has a child, becomes old and - ultimately - dies. The greatness of this gif is in its simplicity - a fine line drawing which is just the right style for the story being told.

Psychedelic

This one should probably come with a health warning! It may not suit every type of website but would certainly be memorable on the right one! The colors used are dazzling!

Given the Boot

The colors used in this gif are extraordinary and give it an overall effect which is nothing short of hypnotic. Go on, admit it, you have just watched the shoe go by about a million times. Thought so!

Creepy Heads

Spooky things happen at night in the plastic head factory! When the lights are switched on the heads come alive. A spooky gif which may well give you the colly wobbles!

Cyber Chaos

The cube rotates again and again. This is extremely hypnotic and if you are of a suggestible nature do not spend too much time staring at it. The next time you are asked for something you will give it willingly. Give me your money, now. Give me your money now!

Puppet Regime

It can't be much fun being a dictator when your secret is revealed to the world. Here is the true meaning of puppet regime! One wonders how many of the world's dictators realize that they have been immortalized in some unexpected ways!

Waterfall

Here's a completely gorgeous gif to end with. The waterfall cascade is wonderfully done - such a shame that no sound comes attached to the image as this would make it perfect! What use it might be on a website is anyone's guess. However, for sheer unadulterated viewing pleasure, this one is marvelous!

If you have a colleague at work who doesn't do anything except stare at their computer screen all day, then you may want to send them the link for this site. If they still don't get it, then hit them over the head with a shovel and refer them to Zombie Harmony. Really.

There is an answer to an old question, and that is “because it can”. The question is, “Why does a dog lick its own bottom?” The answer to the question you will ask about this site is “Because it does”. Go figure.

10 Fantastic Fun and Free Online Applications

Word Clouds

There are hours of fun to be had with this application. With Wordle, you can make your own word clouds. You simply type in the words that you want and click submit and you get a beautifully random piece of word art! It will also do it for the contents of your blog. There are more serious applications of course - you can use these pictures for posters or your own internet site. You can print T-Shirts, business cards, brochures, anything that takes your fancy. The word Triond above is larger than the rest because it was entered three times, the others only once, so you can determine which word gets priority! Wordalicious!

Give Yourself A Facelift

Who could resist this one - even if the results are a little suspect! You can upload a photo of yourself to this application and see what you would look like if you had a cheek lift or a nose reduction. The makers of this site are at pains to say that this does not and should not replace a proper consultation with a professional surgeon but it's a whole heap of fun in any stead. Can you resist putting your own picture in to see what you would look like? I couldn't - and the results are above. I rather liked my drinker's nose to be honest!

What's Your Problem?

If you are not getting along with people, then you may want to find out why. Forget about an Analyst; get an abrupt Tony Soprano style one line response. All you do is type your full name in and press submit and then you get the answer that everyone else has been too afraid to tell you all these years. Apparently, I am a mentally unstable beatnik who's eternally looking for "Ms. Right! I had been wondering. This can be used for your friends too, of course. My boss at work is a mentally unstable b*****d who"s a workaholic married to his job. A lot of mental instability going around at this website!

The Turbanizer

I was a little concerned about this site first of all, what with the recent cartoon of Barack Obama et cetera. However, in for a penny, in for a pound (as they still say here in the UK, at least until we get the Euro). You can choose who you want to tubrnanize (I chose myself again, for the sake of consistency on this page and because I am a complete narcissist). Then, you get to choose the turban - and there are lots of shapes, sizes and colors to choose from! Turbantastic!

Celebrity Face Match!

Have you ever been told that you look like a certain Hollywood A Lister? This is you r chance to find out whether your friends have been flattering or for real. Upload your photo, choose your gender and in a few seconds you will be matched up with a row of celebrities. So, I tried it. Apart from the guy at the end (from the TV show “Heroes”) I don't have a clue who any of them are! Still, it might work for you! Go on, try it - you know you want to!

TV Guide Front Cover

Let all your friends know that you have finally made it to the front cover of TV Guide. Again, upload your picture and hey presto! The difference with this application is that you can then send your friends a message to listen to, a rather over the top announcement that you have made it (at last!). The message can be cleverly personalized so your friend will be left in no doubt that the message is from you and for them! Fame at last!

Logo Maker

There comes a time when you have to put away childish things. That time hasn't come yet and if you are fed up and tired of Word Art (that should have happened when you were about three), then why not generate your text in a way that will make people sit up and take notice. There are over six hundred designs for you to choose from here, so whether you are making a poster for a yard sale or a notice to put up on your bedroom door, you will find something appropriate here. Oh, and you may just spend hours making up silly logos for things that will never have any use whatsoever.

Make Your Own Trading Cards

If you have way too much time at work to mess around, what better way to idle away the hours by creating trading cards of you and your colleagues. You will need digital photos of everyone and a slightly better imagination than me. Upload the photo, choose the skin and icons for your trading card, give each a title and subtitle and you have the beginnings of a new series of cards. Your colleagues may think you are a bigger waste of space than ever, but at least you will have a record of your (short) time at the organization.

Create Your Own Harry Potter Doll

If you are a fan of the Harry Potter books and movies then this may well press a few of your buttons. You can create your very own Harry, Hagrid, Ron, Hermione - anyone you want really - or a variation of your own creation. A word of warning - you can spend a long time at this site without realizing that you haven't gone to work, fed the baby or attended your mother's funeral. Just so you know.

Make Your Own Coat of Arms

Another great time waster, this site allows you to create your own Coat of Arms. There are thousand of combinations here, so you are guaranteed to create something original for you - and your family. You can go for the serious or the downright silly - it's completely up to you! Something perhaps you can do with the kids, who love this sort of thing, or own your own (you're big kid enough for anyone in that case!).

10 Immense Internet Phenomena That People Ended Up Hating

The internet meme is no longer a new phenomena. For those of you not in the know, an internet meme is when a hyperlink or file is spread from person to persons - using the “new” means of dissemination that the internet offers. A meme has as many faces as your average politician - it can be a website in its own right, a joke, an image, a video, a weird and wonderful news story - or even an unexpected link.

A hugely popular commercial website is not referred to as a meme as these are spread though organized channels of distribution. However, it has been known to happen! The one thing they all have in common is that the distribution of a meme is voluntary. The typical meme is disorganized, anarchic and organically spread. As such an average meme can have a life span of hours, days or months. Some even longer. Here we take a trip down memory lane and visit a few of the memes that took the world by storm but which many ended up hating with a vengeance.

The Dancing Baby

The stuff of nightmares, indeed! Stand up and take the blame, the development team of the Character Studio software, from Autodesk. This nightmare vision of babyhood was originally simply meant to test files and data but when it was released as a product sample in 1996 it went around the then burgeoning internet in about two seconds flat. Not that it stopped there - such was the phenomenon that it soon began making appearances on TV shows and music videos. The not-lamented Ally McBeal had one, and the band Blue Swede featured on in a promo video (their reward, the abyss of anonymity!). We had all the variations on the theme as well - the drunk baby, the rasta baby, the samurai baby. Get it away from me now!

The name of Pearlas Sandborn must go down in net history as one of the most reviled! The above is one of the originals messages from 1997, where people were promised huge amounts of cash because AOL and Microsoft were running a beta test for email. All people had to do was to send the message on to everyone in their address book and they would be rewarded beyond the dreams of avarice. Of course, no financial reward transpired for any of the hundreds of thousands - perhaps millions - who forwarded the email. This is still considered a lively jape amongst pubescent males, who simply change the names of the companies and cause bandwidth stretching to this day. Grrr.

Bert Is Evil

Let's start with a real golden oldie. Bert is Evil was founded by Dino Ignacio is 1996 and it featured the popular children's TV character Bert (from Sesame Street) in a variety of manipulated images which connected him with some of the worst and most terrible episodes in human history. This was presented as “proof” that Bert was in fact much more than the harmless puppet he pretended to be. The site became so popular that Ignacio could no longer afford to run it.

So, what the clever chap did was to offer anyone who wanted to mirror (ie copy) his idea the hosting opportunity they wanted. This lead to lots of mirror sites which only added to the mime effect. In a moment of life imitating art, an Islamic protestor in Bangladesh copied the image of Bert with Osama Bin Laden, and used it in a protest collage. This image spread around Western news media with alacrity, much to Ignacio's chagrin. However, this being very much a one joke joke, the idea can wear thin rapidly. Very rapidly.

Line Rider: The Game

There is joy to be had in simplicity and this is almost its epitome - unless you are the employer who discovers that this is what your employees have been doing all day. This game spreads like wildfire and it only needs one person in an organization to email the link to a few others, then they forward it and the result? Zero productivity!

The idea, like is said, is simplicity itself. You draw a line, squiggly, straight or otherwise that represents a hillside covered in snow. Then you press play and a flash animated boy on a sled tries to navigate the hillside you have drawn. It's as simple as that but proved to be an enormous internet phenomenon.

The game was designed by “fsk” - the alter ego of Slovak student Bosjan Cadez. It made its first appearance on the DeviantArt website in 2006 it quickly gained popularity (and notoriety among the office managers of this world!). It was quickly followed up by Linerider 2: Unbound. In 2007 it was made available for portable devices where a Bluetooth connection enables users to share their Line Rider “adventures” with others! A Wii game version is expected out this September.

The LOLcats

This really is one that you either love or hate. No, hate is too kind a word: despise, loathe, abhor, abominate, execrate. The list can go on and on. Put simply, a Lolcat is a combination of text and image. The picture is usually one of a cat in any one of a million funny or humorous situations. The text is a caption, meant to make the graphic even funnier. To make matters worse, the text is usually in “lolspeak” (sometimes known as “kitteh” for Pete's sake). For lolspeak read baby talk. This aside, these remain almost unstoppable internet phenomena.

Who to blame, though? It is thought that they came about in 2005 on the imageboard 4chan (the owner of which remains anonymous today - no doubt to preserve his own safety). The lolcat phenomenon took off with I Can Has Cheeseburger in 2007 and the rest is history. The world has suffered since.

Canon Rock by Jerry Chang

Sometimes a star is born when no one who is “supposed” to birth them is looking. Such was the case with Jerry Chang - mostly known by his internet name “funtwo”. His arrangement of Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel launched him to fame when it was posted online. 46 million hits can't be wrong - or so goes the argument. Being the seventeenth most watched YouTube video ever, as you can image in has inspired - or should that be spawned? - a host of copycat artist all trying to emulate Jerry's fame. Shame, boys and girls, someone got there before you!

This drove people crazy not so much for the originator but for the copycats who have very little talent but insisted that everyone shared that fact. Kind of “The World's Not Got Talent”, as it were.

The “Straightforward” Self Promotion: Aleksey Vayner

In 2006 a thrusting young Yale Undergraduate decided to disseminate his CV to employers. One of the organizations he applied to was UBS AG and employee or employees unknown were so astonished by Vayner's hubris that they sent his application around to friends at other investment banks. Within days the video was on YouTube and a host of blogs across the net. This spread to traditional media, both as a human interest story and as a meme. Take a look at the original, below and remember one thing. Blowing your own trumpet when it is only a penny whistle you should be playing will be discovered and with the internet, nothing and no-one is safe!

People soon began to remember the bane Aleksey Vayner as much for the amount of irritating reminders of his existence as for his existence itself. Put this one on the back burner!

Impossible Is Nothing!

The funniest videos clips are here

Rickrolling

Rickrolling has its origins in a far older internet phenomenon, called duck rolling. This involved placing a blind link in an online discussion. The unaware user, keen to follow a strand on their subject of choice would click the link and end up visiting a page that had nothing to do with the subject at all. In fact, the link would generally lead to a page the contents of which would be literally a rolling duck. This became known quickly among internet wags as duckrolling.

So, things evolve. Instead of seeing a rolling duck, those who are now “rickrolled” find themselves on YouTube. Rick's 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You up” has now received more than twelve million hits. Not quite the revival he was looking for, I would guess.

It started on the day that “Grand Theft Auto 4” had its web premier. The traffic to the host website was so heavy that most people trying could not watch the trailer. An anonymous prankster took it upon himself to link everyone elsewhere. Under the guise of redirecting people to a leak of the trailer on YouTube, Mr (for it surely has to be a male!) Anonymous instead linked the Grand Theft Auto gamers to Mr Astley and his chirpy 20 year old hit. Why he chose Rick Astley will remain a mystery forever, or until the culprit is brought to justice and forced to sit in a darkened room listening to Barry Manillow for several months.

The Corporate Meme: A Glass and a Half Full Productions

Internet advertising, possibly at its best and a great example of an internet meme going viral with little or no help from its corporate base. However, after a while this hairy ape drove people crazy!
Cadbury's surprised and delighted netizens in the UK with their “Studio” advert which will never let you think of Phil Collins in the same way again. An advert that became viral almost immediately on its release, the website offers you eight remixes from some of your favorite bands. Also featured is the newer ad featuring a variety of airport vehicles having fun to a Queen soundtrack. There is very little to do with the product in the content but you will not forget who the ads are for quickly, so it does it job quite cleverly.

This list is not exhaustive and it only reflects the particular likes, dislikes and hates of the author. There are omissions aplenty. So, to make this a more complete list, please enter your own choice of irritating internet phenomena that drove you crazy!
10 Online Videos That Everyone Must Check Out

The internet is a great place for information and almost any kind of media you can imagine but one thing that it has that almost everyone enjoys is video. I have compiled a list of my personal favorite funny, extreme, interesting, and just flat out amazing videos that I think that everyone should check out:

(All the videos are youtube video titles)

Quick Change Artists on America's Got Talent

All you can say to this video is wow. What this video are a husband and wife team on the show America's Got Talent and there act is the instant changing of there clothes behind curtains and other objects. For this video you really have to see it to believe it.

This Is Sparta! Another Techno Remix

Although the whole 300 craze died out a while ago this will make you undoubtedly crack up. This is a very funny techno song that is pretty repetitive but insanely funny and will get stuck in you head for days.

David Blaine Street Magic: YouTube Edition!

If you haven't seen it already it is a must see for anyone and even if you have I recommend you see it again. If you don't know it is a parody of the magician David Blaine and his street magic. To really get the most out of this hilarious youtube hit you should check out the actual magician to understand the joke better.

Invisible Skating

This is a very interesting video part of an actual skate video with only one thing missing…The skateboards! This amazingly edited video is very cool because it is so real and as a bonus it has some great music.

Risky Guy - Dangerous Train Stunt

This video is just plain insanity to me and I recommend everyone should check out but never try this at home. Basically it is where a person lays on the tracks and you just need to see to find out.

Just 2 Guyz

There are many different versions of this music video and I would recommend the lonely island version which is a comedy group that makes most of the SNL digital shorts and is also where Andy Samberg got his start. The synopsis of this video is there are just 2 guys and they are having a good time (watch video to get the joke).

Struck in tsunami

This is an extremely amazing video of a big wave taking on the most amazing and incredible things that nature has ever made.

Knock Knock

A bit twisted but for the most pare hilarious. The video is to say the least not your typical knock knock joke.

Zippo tricks

There are many things that you can do with you spare time but I think that this is one of the best uses of it. This is a very crazy video of a person lighting a lighter but you need to see it to believe it and it will make you want to pick up your Zippo and start playing around.

Girls Are Not To Be Trusted

First I need to say before the title offends anybody this video is a complete joke but a very funny one at that. This video is made by in my book one of the most hilarious comedy groups of all time derrick comedy and it is one of there big hits on youtube that I recommend everyone who loves a good laugh.

Wikipedia

You may have heard of this site it is quite famous in the world. The entertaining thing about this website is that you can type in anything in the search box and about 90% of the time their will be information on it. There is one downside the information on the site can be edited by regular people so it is not guaranteed the information will be accurate.

wikiHow

wiseGEEK

This is a movie information data base which has reliable information on releases . It also has trailers photos and interviews.

AddictingGames

This is another game site and features fun and stupid games it has games submitted by other people and I suggest you try it.

Yahoo! Answers

I have gotten more than enough useful information from this site it has information in many topics including cooking computers religion and more try it .

Check out these simply super superhighway slacker sites to discover ways to while away the time at work. Head phones are just a suggestion if you wish to keep your job.

Only a slacker with no sense of a challenge could resist the name of this game! Impossible! Ha! I'll show them! To be fair to the creators of this quiz, it is indeed very hard. You get three lives, and if you get a question wrong, you lose a life. All three lives gone means the game is over and you must start again, which of course, you will. Again, and again and again!

Are you the type of person who, when told not to do something, will go right ahead and do it, whatever the consequences? If the consequence you are looking for is to slack then dare yourself to press the red button and see what happens. Go on, you know you want to!

If you like silly noises then you will love Mister Nice Hands. Click on the nice hand and it will pull the finger, accompanied by a not so nice sound. Brainless, hilarious sub-Python clicky fun! Oh and a nice soothing guitar accompaniment as well!

This site will keep you slacking for hours. Basically it is an enormous archive of generators. If you want the name of a previously unknown British town or a horoscope with a difference, then get to this site now! That, of course, is only the tip of the iceberg, and will certainly help you forget about those important deadlines at work.

If you like playing music while you work, why not create music while you do not work whatsoever, it is the logical step after all! Buttonbeats allows you to play a sophisticated synth with your keyboard. It doesn't stop there - whether you like House, Techno, Jungle or Hip Hop there is a Beats section where you can mix and match your own music. A sheer delight for the musically inclined professional slacker!

This site is slacker heaven! You choose your cup size and are redirected to a host of Flash and PowerPoint games. The great thing is this site looks like a normal Windows folder full of various types of file - exactly the kind of GUI that you need to sucker your boss in to believing you are working. This site could see the introduction of the one day working week.

This site maintains that it is the number one source for free online Mmorpgs and MMOs. They are probably right. Their goal is to locate and organize each and every free online MMORPGs and MMOs on the net, so there is no need for you to search anymore. Popular titles include Shattered Galaxy and Rohan, so if you like MMOs, this is your ultimate slacker site!

“A snake, a snake, ooh! It's a snake!” will be the words that you will repeat ad infinitum on your journey home after a day's addiction to this site. It is interminable, maddening, frustrating and perhaps one to be avoided if you are an obsessive compulsive. However, if you are a fan (or a potential fan) of cute dancing badgers that just go on and on and on - and on, then you will adore this. Don't be badgered at work, do the badgering yourself!

The sequel to the hugely popular Idiot's Test, number two will continue to confound you while you slack as, try as you might, you keep getting the simplest answers wrong. Perfect for those who wish to exercise their mental agility in the work place but without doing any work, this will allow you to slack and improve your mental prowess at the same time. Perhaps.

Not all slacking has to be mindless, contrary to popular opinion. In many cases the quest for intellectual rigor can be the ultimate form of slacking. How Stuff Works is a site that panders to these with a thirst for knowledge which is useful, but probably not to those reading it. So if you want to know whether there is water on Mars or how a tribe can remain undiscovered in the Amazon until the present day, you know where to click!

How Do They Do That 2: 10 Awesome and Intriguing Flash Animations

Here are 10 of the best on the net at the moment. Make a coffee, then sit back and enjoy these sites:

Alien Opera

An alien with his single eye in his mouth sing his heart out. Weird, peculiar, hypnotic, if you don't like opera, you will love this. The guys at Tokyoplastic give us a real Flash feast for the eyes. This is wickedly entertaining and beautifully original work.

Dad's At Work

Once you're on the site, click on "Watch this Movie" to see the animation. Written, animated and directed by Sakupen, this is a crazy insight in to the working life of Dad - perhaps from the overactive imagination of a small child. Dad loves his work and arrives in a superhero type frenzy of crazy activity, obliterating most things in his path as he strives to get to his desk. Mad, bad and dangerous!

Nose Pilot

The work of Alexandru Sacui, this is European style flash animation at its best. Choose from two languages (French or English) and you are away in to a strange alternative world where a slug can be your best friend and you have better watch out for the evil exploding robotic duck! A great way to while away your time!

Blockhead Ghostmas

A twisted animation from Michael Swain. The No 1 Guy has decided that Halloween is just a made up holiday and should be replaced by Ghostmas. What ensues is a lot of totally idiotic Flash mayhem, compounded by the disappearance of the No 1 Guy's Weevil. Strange, a little disturbing but superbly realized work!

Waterlollies

A fully realized story from the sublimely talented Adam Phillips, this Flash produced short feature will just blow you away completely. Bitey is a satyr like creature who loves to eat and tease the other creatures of the Brackenwood world. Hubristic to a letter, Bitey eventually gets his comeuppance. Your mind will boggle at the skills that have gone in to this fantastic, weird and beautifully animated short. Note - this is very graphic intensive - if you are on a low spec computer then click the link to YouTube and watch it there instead.

Spy Bar

Mattias Lindburg is another preposterously talented animator. This piece gives you directions to the mysterious place known as The Spy Bar - as if you are something of a secret agent yourself. Cool music and a visual treat that will make you wonder how on earth it was done.

Creep

If you love Radiohead then you will adore this acoustic version of their brilliant song “Creep”. Realized in Flash by Laith Bahrani, this is a slow build movie and eschews the usual bangs and whistles in favor of a quieter, more subtle nuance. If you have ever felt like throwing yourself out of the office window, watch this one!

Animator Vs. Animation

The little stick man takes his revenge after all those years of being beaten up, blown up and generally used and abused by Flash animators. Will the little guy escape or will the animator destroy him first? A wonderful short animation by the uber-talented Alan Becker.

Animator Vs. Animation II

The little stick guy is back! This time he escapes from his program and wreaks havoc on the Windows environment. Alan Becker is back with the sequel to his hugely popular Animator Vs. Animation - but makes the foolhardy mistake of making the little guy The Chosen One. Superbly created flash animation that you will want to watch again and again!

Hey, Hey, 16K

A look back at the games we used to play. If you remember Jetpac you will love this cheery little song! Deliberately unsophisticated looking but very clever animation from Rob Manuel, this will take you back to the days when you thought a gig was something you went to in order to watch a rock band!

Whether you are new to Flash or a seasoned professional, these sites will make you sit back in wonder:

1. Bird on a Journey

A little bird flies on his way home to his lady, avoiding some pitfalls on the way. This brilliant animation combines drawing and photography to stunning effect, together with a weird and wonderful soundtrack.

2. Drum Machine

If you love oriental music - and drums - then you will love this animation. Seven Japanese drummers deliver the goods in this beautifully constructed piece of Flash. The skill and time that went in to this beggars belief!

3. Online Shopping

Be patient with this one. At first glance it looks like just another website that offers you household goods to buy. But hold on a second - didn't that mug on special offer just fall over! That's just the beginning of the fun - a joy to watch!

4. Icon War

These desktop icons decide that they don't like each other any more. War breaks out! Who will be the ultimate winner as icon fights icon! Oh, the humanity! Extremely entertaining flash animation.

5. Kaleidoscope

This is an amazing pattern generating piece of flash animation. You can choose from lots of different varieties and the patterning effect follows your mouse around in a myriad of colors and shapes. Inspirational!

6. Silhouette Sounds

A single silhouette becomes several then becomes many, with each producing a different sound to produce a tune. Fantastic black and white animation is eye catching and very, very different!

7. Doorway

All the guy wants to do is get through the door! Unfortunately, there are lots of things that do not wish to grant him passage. Superb European style flash animation you will want to watch again and again.

8. Falling Dude

Superbly irritating but extremely watchable, this animation has a roughly drawn boy falling, and falling - oh, and then falling some more! You will love it!

9. Jackson Pollock

Ever seen a Jackson Pollock painting and thought "I can do that!" Well, here is your chance! Let your mouse do the walking as you produce works of art that the Saatchis will be after in no time at all!
