A fun way to find something new to read. Slide your cursor along a variety of spectra (happy -> sad, funny -> serious, short -> long, etc.), the website does some calculations, and spits out a list of title suggestions, complete with descriptions of the plot. If you live in the UK, you can even send an online request to borrow the book from a list of libraries.

This one's essential for me, since I love to eat but don't have a lot of time for grocery shopping. Type in what foods you have lying around and it pops out a tasty recipe you already have everything (or almost everything- if you're one or two ingredients short it'll generate a shopping list for you) needed to make. Many recipes even have reviews, you can be sure you're not making something that will turn our horrible. It can also recommend cocktails by doing the same thing with alcohol.

I like this because its completely free, doesn't require registration or installations, and has a large size limit (100MB). Allows you to upload any kind of files and gives you an ID code with which you (or your friends/family/whatever) can download the file anyplace in the world whenever you want.

Find free stuff in your community! Instead of throwing unneeded stuff away, people offer it online. If it happens to be something you want, you can claim it. This one is best for people who live in major metropolitan areas, but you never know. Everyone likes getting something for nothing.

Artsy types will love this one. Choose any color on the RGB/HSV spectrum and this nifty device will find you a collection of photos in which the primary theme is that exact color. Every picture it finds is 100% fine for you to use under the Creative Commons License. Great for webpage design, collages, and probably lots of other stuff too.

There is quite a bit of useful information to explore and more entertaining categories to choose from on this website.

This is a partly serious place to find valuable information about new places to ghost hunt and partly a less serious website to visit when in the mood to read a good ghost story. The websites and blogs on this list are not in any specific order, because I was unable to determine the order without the help of other geeks. I am always open to any suggestions left by my readers.    This is the largest bookmarking social network on the Internet, where its members are actively sharing new content that they find published on the web. By a show of votes by its members any new content is scrutinized and either promoted up the Digg ranks or Buried into the forgotten realm. Digg is addictive, so beware.

3. Hack n Mod

   This is website contains some of the coolest mod hacks that I have discovered so far. If you enjoy taking electronics apart and building something cooler out of its parts, then don't miss this one.

   This website contains mod hacks, technology articles, video game news and much more. Although, the appearance of the website is clean and uncluttered, the number of entries within each category are few.

   MetaCafe is much more than a mod hacking video site, but some very interesting mod hack video can be found here. MetaCafe serves up other types of video topics much like YouTube does.

6. iPhone Hacks

   This is a neat website for anyone interested in modifying their iPhone and reading the latest product news. It contains a very comprehensive library of articles, mod hacks and categories pertaining to the iPhone.

7. Online Stopwatch

   Ok, this is a silly little website that displays your choice of an online stopwatch, an online clock or online military time. That's about it, but still pretty geeky to build a website to get the time of day.

8. TechVat

   This is a comprehensive tech website where geeks can get all of the tech, gadget, video game, and Internet news they can handle. Other categories includes; Programming, Social Media, Apple and Tech Deals, for geeks that expect more.

9. Liquidice's Nintendo Wii Hacks

   Wow, this is a fantastic blog about everything Wii and Wii mod hacks. Learn new ways to modify your Wii, so your opponents won't see what's coming. A ton of great tips and tricks for anyone wanting to trick out their machines.

10. Atari Museum

    Remember owning an Atari video game console back in to 1980's, well if you don't then here's your chance to take a trip back into time. Learn everything that you ever wanted to know and more. Discover how to turn your Atari Flashback 2 console into a full fledge Atari 2600 and other mod hacks for the Atari video game console.

11. Mohacks

    This is a cool website that has some really neat mod hacks and to go even further, this site will show you how to build your very own High Altitude Balloon. Or, let the geek kid inside of you out when you build your own Silly String Shooter, while you nibble on the cotton candy that you made yourself. This site is Great!

12. Geek Culture

    Here's a cool place where geeks can be geeks. Connect with other geeks like you in the forums or comb through the AV2K comic section. Thinking about someone special to you, while pouring through the latest MacWorld Magazine, then why not send an geeky e-card and more.

13. WiiHacks Wii Community

    This website is dedicated to the Wii and serves its online community with a healthy dose of Wii hacks and an active Wii forum where players interact. Participate in a poll or share your Wii wisdom with a Wii apprentice (in otherwords, the person asking the question). Membership is free.

14. WOW UI

    This is a comprehensive website dedicated to World of Warcraft and offer plenty of hacks and mod hacks to keep the super fans busy for quite a long time.

15. Instructables

    If you are the type of geek who enjoys building things using your hands and mind, then this is a superb website for the Do-It-Yourself geeks. Learn about the crazy things that geeks are building and learn how to build them for you. Registration is free and required.

16. FixYa

    “FixYa provides free tech support and technical help for gadgets, electronic equipment and consumer products” and they store manuals and guides for over 500,000 products. FixYa may be able to save a person both time and money through teaching them how-to does the job themselves. There is an optional membership upgrade that has some costs associated with it, but it is only optional.

17. Hack A Day

    This is a great site to learn fun mod hacks or build your own pen size polonium detector, just say'in. Learn a new mod hack each and everyday. Cool site.

18. Lifehacker

    Lifehacker is an outstanding place to learn new tips and tricks for getting things done. Prepare yourself to learn new mod hacks or thumb through the tech articles or join the Lifehacker community and discover the rest. Membership is free.

19. Geekologie

    If cool futurist gadgets are your thing, then this website delivers the goods. Whether it is flying drones or plastic cars, Geekologie is a major geek site that you'll want to bookmark.

20. Chemical Elements

    Raise you hand if you remember the Periodic Table, because I sure didn't. This is one cool and confusing website even for a geek like me. Lookup the element or chemical that you desire and presto, pops out the info with charts and graphs and everything. This site would be useful for students.

21. BoardGameGeek

    BoardGameGeek is the biggest and most comprehensive database of board games, card games and print n' play games online. Members actively review games that they are playing or have played and shares ideas with the rest of the community. Anything about games that person needs to know about, then BoardGameGeek is the best place to find the information. Get full access when you join, membership is free.

22. Top Ten Sources

    This site offers interesting tech reviews, articles and online sources from programming to Paris Hilton. Top Ten Sources is not a website that is totally dedicated to all things geek, but has an excellent selection of geek related material.

23. Glass Gaint

    Can you count to 31 using only one hand? I can and you can learn how, too. This is a fun counting exercise using binary. Just think of how many beers you could win at the bar.

24. Innergeek

    Do you know how geeky you really are? Take the “Geek Test” and discover, just how geeky you really are. Warning: This test is rather long and takes about 15 minutes to complete depending on your reading speed. Believe me, this is not the same type of test as the ACT or SAT, it is much more straightforward than that. Just select the statements that best describes you and the things that you know and click on the “Check My Geekiness” and get your results instantly.

Using a unique set of digitized 2-D and 3-D full color animations visitors can get a virtual look inside the human and primate skeletons.

Ok, have you ever wondered, just how geeky you really are? You can stop wondering and take the Geek Test and see what you score. The test is pretty straightforward that is separated into several categories and then, you just select in each category what statement(s) describes you best. Once finished the test, then click “Rank My Geekiness” and get the results instantly. (Please note, that this is not a scientific test and is only a geeky toy).

Today, in this last article, I'm presenting a list of other great web services that, while not “essential” to everyone, are highly recommended and many people will find extremely useful in their own online organizers:

1. Payment Processor

   While not an absolute “essential”, payment processors are great for just about anyone because it can be used for so many different purposes. From paying a friend back for a split dinner to collecting credit card and EFT payments from sales of your home business's products, a good payment processor is easy, secure, and can be used by anyone. Of course, the number one payment service that comes to mind (and my personal favorite) is PayPal but there other great services out there that serve the same purpose.
   
   A few that you might want to check out are Obopay, Neteller, BidPay, and TextPayMe). Of course, always use common sense and be sure to read all of the terms and conditions before using any online payment option.

2. Project Planner

   Especially for business folks, a good online project planner should be easy-to-use, a cinch to read and understand, and support multiple projects and multiple ways of viewing timelines and tasks on those projects. They should rival more traditional software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera. Though I don't personally use a project planner very much, some of the really impressive ones I've seen include ViewPath, BaseCamp, and AceProject.

3. Quick Reference

   Everyone needs a quick answer to something once in a while. If you find yourself wondering “who is…”, “what is…”, or “where is…”, you need a good source to go to for quick, accurate answers. My favorites are Wikipedia, and Google. Often with either of these services, just typing in what you want to know instantly brings back exactly the information you need.

4. Notebook/Web Clipper

   Sometimes, while we're surfing the web, we come across a piece of information that's just too valuable to let sit. Or maybe we don't have time to look at an article now, but we'd like to later. A good web clipping service will let you do just that. Just select the article, right click, and viola! The entire article or information (images and all) is saved to your online web clipper, which you can organize, prioritize, edit, and read at your leisure. And, even if the information changes or is removed on the website that you clipped it from, the data in your web clipper/notebook never changes.
   
   A good web clipper is also a notebook, allowing you to store your ideas, notes, recipes, drafts, or anything else that you need to keep in electronic form. A few good ones are Google Notebook, Clipmarks, and Zoho Notebook.

5. Reminders

   Sometimes, you just need a reminder without cluttering up your calendar with all the reminders you've set. The web abounds with these services, but my favorite is Jott, because it lets you simply call a phone number and speak (yes, speak) your reminder - the Jott system automatically translates it and will send you both a text message and e-mail with the reminder at the set time. This is awesome, especially for on-the-go people who may not be in front of a computer at all times. Other choices for reminders can be found by simply Googling “reminders”.

6. Online Bookmark Service

   You have a computer at home and at work. You have a computer in the bedroom and your laptop is in the living room. How do you keep all of your bookmarks and favorite sites synced on all of these devices? Simple: you don't, you let an online bookmark service do the work. These services allow you to store all of your favorite site on their server that can be called up from any web browser and used just like the favorites on your computer. This way, there's only one set of favorite sites to keep up with.
   
   My personal favorite in this category is Spurl because of the handy add-on for your browser that puts your bookmarks in a separate pane to the left of your screen. However, there are many other great bookmarking services out there: del.icio.us, Backflip , and BookmarkAll are just a few. Google “online bookmarks” for more possibilities.

7. Virtual Assistant

   No matter how helpful they are, however, none of the services above can do what a person can (at least not yet): interact with other humans or make reasoned decisions. Sometimes, you just need another human to help you stay organized. Having a personal assistant used to mean big dollars and was only for big executives with six-and-seven-figure incomes. No more. Now, having your own human “virtual” assistant is more affordable than ever.
   
   For example, Sunday will, for just $29 a month, allow you to have a personal assistant perform up to 30 tasks on your behalf per month. “Schedule an oil change for me”, “Find a supplier for that new Elmo doll that has them in stock, place the order on my Visa and have it shipped overnight to me”, and “Find the number for customer support at XYZ company. Please call and when you finally get a live person on the line, transfer the call to me so that I can speak to them” are all tasks you can have your personal assistant do.
   
   Other companies that provide these same services (at varying rates) are GetFriday, DoMyStuff) - actually more of a "task auction" site, and TasksEveryDay. I found my personal assistant, Jill, at DoMyStuff and she has helped me loads already by taking away mundane tasks, organizing data, and leaving me more time to do what I love to do - write (you can use the link to check out her DoMyStuff profile - she has great rates and fast turnaround).

There you have it: my recommendations for your online life. Not every suggestion will be appropriate for everyone, but once you find that perfect mix of web services to save you time and keep you organized, you'll feel much more in control than you did before.
