Put a Poll on Your Website

A poll is a separate area on your page that displays a question to which visitors choose an answer. Usually, on choosing, the results so far are displayed as an inducement for the visitor to participate. Most blog and website hosts include a pre-built poll module so, before you scour the internet for a script, try your host and see what they recommend.

If not, search for 'poll scripts' or similar in a search engine and choose a module. You will need to know what sort of script you want - is it 'asp' or 'php' or 'perl' or something else? If unsure, ask your host to see what sort of scripts are permitted or recommended. If you host your own blog you can choose any that take your fancy or build your own in Flash or html with css.

Like many hosts, Blogger provides an easy route into poll building by providing a standard module. Go to 'Settings', then 'Layout' and finally choose 'Add a Page Element'. From the dialog that appears, select Poll and type in the question and then the answers, set the closing date, click 'Save' and the poll will immediately appear on your page. Simple as that!

This makes producing a poll easy, the hard part, of course, is thinking what to ask and how to use it.

The best way is to dive in and get your module prepared, which is often all that is necessary for the ideas to flow. Later, when you have a few under your belt, you can think about a theme for the polls. However, steer clear of unpleasant or deeply controversial subjects and don't do polls that could be hurtful to others - whilst this may seem like fun at the time, it can backfire later.

The best advice is to try to make your poll both interesting and entertaining as well as having some relevance to your audience. Polls on music, games and sport are popular for most pages and you can usually fit them in with the content of the site. For a less specific blog or site you can try polls that test general or some form of specialised knowledge.

If you're completely stuck, search for 'trivia' on the web. This will enable you to easily put together a poll that sees just how much your visitors really know! If you want to go the whole way, you can feature the winner and, particularly if your readers are a local group of friends or similar, give away something as a prize.

But a more serious blog demands a more serious poll so pick something you are writing about and do some research to make the poll both interesting and informative. For example, if your blog is about modern art, you can ask if your readers like the work of a certain artist. The benefit of this is that you can make a feature of the result in a new post on that subject in a few weeks time.

Polls can provide both entertainment and light relief for the surfer and are generally well supported and well regarded. They also look good on a page and provide some contrast against a solid block of text as well as helping to lead the eye in a particular direction so they are usually well worth the effort needed to produce them.

But whatever you do, have fun with your poll and remember that it is fun and should not be taken too seriously!

How to Find a Great Youtube Video

Ever have one of those days when you can't find that YouTube video to satisfy your daily dose of humor or curiosity? Well truth be told it's actually much easier than you think to come across the next "big video". Often times simply searching "funny video" just isn't enough. With so many YouTube videos being posted everyday and so many people wanting theirs to be seen, a more obvious title will be accompanied by bad videos.

So what should you do? Well one of the best sources of YouTube humor is bloopers. What is broadcasted 24 hours a day 7 days a week live? The news! All you need to do is type in "news bloopers" and plenty of great vids are available right at your finger tips, with new ones everyday. Ever stay up really late and watch those terrible infomercials or the QVC shopping channel? Well a lot of those programs are broadcasted live with little room for error. Searching for home shopping bloopers also yields an incredible amount of great candid entertainment.

Everyone has seen America's Funniest Home Videos. The best part of the show is the montage of people taking horrible yet hilarious spills! Well to see them again and again and share them with your friends who missed it while they were in the bathroom simply search "man" or "woman" or "kid" followed by the word "falls" and you are bound to get some great results.

Now for those of you who are over the humor of seeing people fall over and over again a great way to simply be amazed it to see what silly people do everyday. Searching "drunk redneck" is a great way to see some crazy back country antics that happen all the time. Also simply typing in "explosion" is a great say to see some fascinating videos of breathtaking explosions. Whether it be someone firing a rifle at a 5 gallon propane tank or the dropping of the Tsar Bomb (the first H Bomb ever tested with a mushroom cloud 8 miles in diameter) your eyebrows will definitely be lifted!

Beware the E-mail Questionnaire

We all get them, and send them, the benign social questionnaire, often titled harmless things like "Getting to Know You", or such. In truth many times they are merely that, harmless questionnaires, but they have the potential for great harm, to you, your personal information, and family. For the most part they are fun, people enjoy doing them, and sending them. Most of the time they come with the heading "Fill this out and send it back to me", therein is one of the problems.

Let us examine a questionnaire. Here are several sample questions common in most e-mailed social questionnaires.

What is your favorite Television show?

What is your favorite Movie?

If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?

Have you ever gone skinny dipping?

What celebrity would you most like to meet?

What was your first pets name?

What is your current pets name?

Would you rather be too hot, or too cold?

If something happened to your spouse, would you marry again?

Do you know how your parents met?

What is your mothers maiden name?

What is your favorite thing to eat on a hot day?

Most questionnaires are much longer of course, this is only a short example to point out some common, dangerous questions. First remember somebody sent you this questionnaire with the message to fill it out and return it to them, sometimes people get so many forwards of this type they don't always pay attention to who it is from, they simply enjoy filling it out. Often you are also instructed to forward it to others on your mailing list. People enjoy answering and sending them back and do not always think beyond that point.
Let us look at some of the questions above, most are safe to answer, but some are dangerous. Numbers 6, 7, and 11, are the high risk ones. Often these are answers given to secret questions given when you cannot recall your password. So in effect you have given somebody your e-mail address and the codeword to get the actual password. Also sometimes people use these answers themselves as their passwords. So you have just given a stranger access to your e-mail account, and maybe more.

From your e-mail account they may have access to your Pay Pal or other on-line functions you preform. They may even have access to your bank account and anything else you have passwords and Internet access for.

If they fail to get the answer they want, all they have to do is send you another fun questionnaire with the right questions on it, cleverly hid as entertainment. Now, I am not suggestion you forgo filling out any fun questionnaires in the future, I only recommend that you check who they are from, and if you are replying to more than one source when you return the filled out e-mail. Also be keen to spot these potentially invasive questions. I am sure most of the time the senders are harmless, but you never want to be caught off guard by hitting the one that is not.

Another tip is to remove these questions from any forwards you get, so that you save your friends any potential grief.

The B10s Pick: Guitarists

So I put "Billy Bad Ass" here on number five. Almost everyone I know has seen this guy play Johann Pachelbel's Cannon on his guitar with a Green Day like sound and drum backing. No doubt that this kid is talented and with continued practice will become a great studio guitarist.

OKAY I know there are two guys on one guitar. That already rocks. One guy for bass and the better of the two picking out banjo like melodies. These guys really have their stuff together. The song that they chose to cover is Jerry's Breakdown written by Jerry Reed and together is spot on. Very nice.

Impossible guitar work, or at least sounds that way... Damn this guy can tap his fingers on that fret board like no other. His sound is very unique and along with that acoustic guitar makes a nice listen.

Andy is and will always be my favorite acoustic guitar player. He used something I never thought possible, a creative and awesome tap-style guitar along side his hand slaps for a drum beat. WOW! I dig how the song sounds like a rainy day but not dark almost like the sun is still shining.

Explosm
The greatest web comic of them all. The humour of all the comics is brilliant, and they occasionally put up shorts(short videos) that are just as hilarious. The comics are updated daily and even if you think this is not your thing you should definitely check it out!

StumbleUpon
If you're bored and have no idea what to do for the next five minutes then stumble upon is for you. You just click the stumble button and it will send you off to a website that others have selected as being dead good. A lot of the stumbles are brilliant and funny whereas others may be educational or contain all sorts of media.

Travian
A lot of people think that online games aren't for them, I was one of them, but travian converted me. Travian is a browser based game that revolves around romans, teutons and gauls in a battle to build the world wonder. You manage a village that grows and eventually can produce troops and begin conquering!

SliceThePie
This is both great fun and earns you money, what a combination! You'll listen to a track, give it a rating and a review and depending on your status earn an amount of money. The more accurate your reviews are to the average the more your status increases, its brilliant fun and earns a little bit too!

10 Surefire Ways the Internet Can Save You Big Money

Since the recent economic woes in the United States doesn't seem to be getting any better any time soon, it has become necessary to cut costs and balance our personal spending budgets in anyway possible. Usually, entertainment budgets are the first to suffer budget cuts and it's this entertainment that many of us need to stay sane in insane economic times.

This article will introduce you to “10 Surefire Ways That The Internet Can Save You Big Money” and show you where to find how-to instructions to connect your pc to your television for improved viewing.

Magic Jack

Home telephone service calling plans have dropped greatly in price, the typical basis AT&T landline plan starts at about $30.00 once all of the fees and taxes have been figured in. Even $30 dollars is $360 dollars per year with a no bells and whistle calling plan and that is still too much when compared to the savings that consumers experience using the MagicJack Internet phone service.

At a starting cost of $48 dollars (including the MagicJack USB gadget and S/H charges) and $19.95 per year annually thereafter, now that is a great deal. I own a MagicJack and it delivers crystal clear reception and I can call anywhere within the US and Canada for only $1.60 per month without ever receiving another month telephone bill.

The next several websites deliver quality entertainment such as movies, television programming, Internet radio and video games directly to your pc for free. To make this experience more worth wild, the first website will show you how to connect your pc to your television, so that you can watch and enjoy the great programming that the Internet has to offer you.

Bittorrent

On this website you will find complete easy to follow instructions making connecting your pc to your television as easy as 1-2-3. Plus, BitTorrent offers movies, TV, music and games that can be watched, listened to or played for free.

World TV PC

When most people turn on their television set, they may have as many as 200 channels to choose from and many people have even fewer channels to choose from depending on service. At WorldTvPc.com consumers can watch hundreds of television programs that are being broadcasted from locations around the world. This is a great way to learn what is really going on in the world, today.

WwiTv

As if the first free TV website wasn't enough, here's another one where you can tune-in to international television programming from around the globe. There are plenty of channels to choose from and everything from sports programs to lifestyle shows to movies.

Channel Chooser

Now this website is a bit different than the last two free Internet television websites, because this one allows people to watch popular cable television programming like the Sci-fi channel, ESPN, CNN, and many others. With hundreds of channels to select from, there should not be any real problem finding something to watch for free.

Live 365

At Live365, you will find thousands of free Internet radio stations airing free radio programming and music. Users can locate their favorite radio station by selecting stations by genre or built-in station search. Listen to music; talk radio shows and news from around the world and across the Internet from your home computer.

Streaming Media Online

Can't get enough of all of these free or almost free Internet entertainment tools, well then here is another fine example of organized linking to many other free radio and television websites on the web. Surely, you will be able to find something interesting to watch or listen to with this website resources.

Every Video Game

The Internet has developed into a fine place to play video games of every sort and most times they are completely free to play and enjoy straight from the Internet. Every Video Game offers hundreds of old school and new video games that can be played for free from your PC or TV (if your pc and television are connected). Connect your favorite joystick or game pad and start playing your favorite free video games.

News and Newspapers Online

Never buy another newspaper again. Get your news and newspapers from this website completely free. Select the state or country where you live or want to get the news from and have your news delivered directly on your PC for a free and easy daily read.

The ISP Guide

Now, since we have established that the Internet is an extremely valuable Internet tool to maintain during stressful economic times, it is very important to stay connected to the Internet to cash-in on all these savings. The ISP Guide allows you to compare Internet Service Providers (ISP) side-by-side, so to locate the best and some times the lowest connection plans available.

Entertainment Resources on the Internet

After a long day, you need to relax and unwind. Some days you are so burned out that you don't even want to go out. As a result, you sit at home still focused on work or school issues.

You can't sit around and not do anything but brood. Psychologists tell us that entertainment is vital to our mental health. After all "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

You fire up the trusty PC and get onto the information superhighway. You surf the usual sites and do the usual things. And you still brood. We need to break you out of the rut.

There are uncounted entertainment sources on the Internet. There are so many sources that information overload is a real danger. These tips will cut away the overload and get you on the road to being recharged.

Go to Google and narrow your choices. Start with movies and music since they are the perfect escape vehicle

"Movie Downloads" will bring up a huge number of sites where download movies for a fee. These are subscription based services that move you out of the doldrums and into relax mode.

"Music Downloads" are also great escapist destinations. As always, subscriptions offer the most value for your money.

If you are not into Movies and Music how about gaming? In your search be sure to specify your format. Some examples of this would be:

"PSP Downloads" will get you a vast listing for the Playstation Portable format

"PSP Movies" is new. I recently learned that I could watch movies for my PSP. Remember this for trips.

Don't forget television services. Cable may have a lock in your local area, but you still have options. What you do is install Satellite TV on your PC. Try these search terms:

"Satellite TV for PC's" is awesome for overnight stays during high powered business travel

"TV on PC" or "PC TV" or variants will work. You will get the same results for subscription services. And the best part is getting your normal channels, and unique content from all over the world.

As you can see, entertainment is only a mouse click away. Today we live in a dynamic, fast paced world full of competition and stress. Stop taking your work home, protect your mental health, and have fun.

Who Gave Them a URL?! 10 Totally Oddball Websites

The Internet is a maze of interesting and sometimes bazaar activities and entertainment that millions of people participate in everyday life. For some people this means the weirder the better and to be perfectly honest, sometimes the weird is a purer form of entertainment, because it requires a greater creative ability to make the weird enjoyable.

Stop worrying about what to get that person who already has everything, because unless the person that you know is a closet serial killer, then they probably don't have one of these. At “Corpses For Sale” you can purchase an incredibly realistic full body corpse with rotting flesh, teeth and yellow fingernails. The corpses are not real, but the expert craftsman sure makes one stop and take a double take and the reason, is because they look so real.

Looking for a bit of nerd humor with a tad of geekiness? This website offers an assortment of actual technical signs that are not normally funny, but these signs come complete with humorous captions that makes them funny to look at and to think about.

The website introduces an amazing illusion that will have you seeing dots for the rest of the day. Watch a rotating board containing three yellow dots and one green dot, that are there in front of your eyes one second and gone the next second. This is a really cool optical illusion that will capture your attention for the next few minutes.

Built to pay tribute to one of the world's most relied on consumer products “Toilet Paper”. This website presents an extensive collection of brands of toilet paper that range from the mundane to the exceedingly rare. This is a comprehensive Internet resource for learning about toilet paper.

Now, for a fun and dizzying activity that will freak out your mind and confuse your senses. Some sensitive observers may become dizzy and/or sick, so if you are one of these people, then you should leave the site immediately.

Angry Alien has created a new twist on the typical movie review. In 30-seconds, visitors can watch a troupe of bunnies re-enact some of the best movies of all-time in a movie parody sort of way. Some of these movies parody are absolutely hilarious and a must to watch. My personal favorites are: Borat, Jaws, The Grudge and Star Wars.

Sure, Dr Mega Volt is a tad bit weird and completely out of his mind. Anyone who would knowingly put himself in an electrifying situation has to be included in an article entrenched in the world of weird. This guy has either a death wish or he has found a job that pays really, really well.

The Department of Homeland Security introduced in 2002, the Homeland Security Advisory System that features a color-coded warning bar scale that ranges from green (Low-risk) to red (Severe-risk). Now, you can get you very own to download onto your computer for free. I don't know why anyone would want one of these, but there are some weird things that people want for some strange reason.

If you have wondered how many pennies would it take to fill-up a room, then this website will answer this question and continues to take this question even further. What would one billion pennies look like if stacked?

Developed in 1994, “The Really Big Button That Doesn't Do Anything” is a usual artifact that attracts thousands of people every day. Pushing the button is pointless, but for some reason people still continue to push the button regardless.
