Traffic Paradise: How to Drown in a Website Visitor Deluge

Doing any type of business on the internet ultimately boils down to one central issue: How to get constant website traffic (in other words, how to get more site visitors). There's just no use making an impressive blog or webpage if no one will see it. When you create a web page or blog post, you wanna make sure that it is seen by as many eyeballs as possible.

The first question to ask is this : How much traffic do you need? The answer may vary, depending on the type of website you're running and the nature of your online business. For example, bloggers and content publishers go for tens of thousands of views before they can expect to earn serious revenue from their blog posts and submitted articles. Meanwhile people who retail stuff online usually need lesser amounts of traffic, but it has to be highly targeted to a specific audience.

Ok, if the above sentences did not make much sense to you, don't fret. Here are some cool tips for you to start doing so you can get more traffic to any webpage you choose:

Surf Other Blogs and Comment on Them

Try going to Google Blog Search and look for blogs that have a simlar topic to the webpage or blog you're promoting. Then leave useful comments on those pages. Don't just make spammy comments. Share useful thoughts and participate actively in any discussion. When you frequently do this, you wll accomplish three basic things:

The owners of the blog you comment on have a greater chance to visit your website (this is their way of returning the favor to you). Most blogs allow you to leave a link to your webpage each time you post a comment. People see your link, so they click it and end up on your website/blog.

Your website link will be popular. When your website link is posted on hundreds of other different blogs (just by simply posting comments), Google will decide that your link is important and popular. Therefore, your website address will push higher on search engines.

You will gain more recognition in the blogosphere. This is important for long term traffic.

Study Google Trends

By going to www.google.com/trends, you will find popular search keywords that real people are actively searching online. For example, a recent Google trend showed that Michael Phelps ranked number 2 on Google as the most searched keyword in August. Based on that trend, you may want to provide content that appeals to readers of the same topic. By knowing what's truly popular online, you will be in a position to provide content that many people will love to read. The result? More traffic and more clickthroughs for you.

Ride The Web 2.0 Wave

There are many sites that offer you opportunities to share your useful links and content to other people. The sites that come to mind are Digg, NewsVine, Facebook, Myspace, Reddit and many others. The key is to build a network of friends and a solid reputation on each of these sites. Then when your network of contacts has been established, sharing yor stuff is gonna be a whole lot easier.

Take time to master the culture of each site mentioned above. Others are strict and doesn't allow you to blatantly promote your links. In other Web 2.0 sites, meanwhile, you are expected to read and promote other people's works so others can do the same for you as well. Master the rules and regulations of each Web 2.0 site mentioned above and make sure you abide by them.

Is building traffic hard work? Is this a rocket science? My answer to both questions is yes! Now let me ask you a question: Who ever told you that it's all gonna be easy?

There's no free lunch, so to speak!

The good news is, as you gradually move up and build a huge contact base and reputation online, things will start to get easier and easier. The traffic will become more constant. It's all worth it in the end, if you have the patience and perseverance to do what it takes to succeed on the internet.

The Search Engine Wars: Five Classic Battlefields Where Google and Yahoo Meet

We have all learned to love Google and Yahoo. They give us instant access to information, photos, videos, websites. Yes, these search engines even help us find answers to everyday life. With the rise and popularity of web spider technology, possibly one question comes to the minds of majority of internet users:

Which is the best search engine out there, and which will dominate the internet in the future years to come?

Listed below are five (5) distinct areas where Google meets face to face with Yahoo, in an attempt to win your affection, support, and of course, your elusive click. Let's see who wins!

Google Search Results versus Yahoo Search Results

At first glance, there seems to be no difference. But look closely. While Yahoo gives you the most popular sites regarding the topic you're searching for, Google gives you MORE and BETTER search results. Just try to type Barack Obama, and you'll see that Google Search will show you an index of pages that are not present in Yahoo Search.

The result? Google wins by unanimous decision.

The Home Page: Who Gets The Vote?

The home page is very important because it gives readers an overview of what's happening in the world on a specific day. Google is known for its simple, "uncomplicated" page (is there such a word as 'uncomplicated?). All it has is a simple field where you can type your search keyword and some additional buttons.

Yahoo is different. The home page contains news, information, games, e-mail and many other features. You can even do your own online research survey by looking at the "Today's Top 10 Searches" section (this feature is vital for bloggers who need to choose popular topics to write about). Yahoo News gives you fresh updates every half hour or so. Being on Yahoo gives you a feeling that you're up to date with all the events of the world.

The outcome? Yahoo wins by KO.

Unique Search Engine Features

Both Yahoo and Google have unique search engine features that the other doesn't have. For example, Yahoo Search gives you the capability to have a 'video' search and a 'shopping' search. Google, meanwhile, offers you a chance to do a 'blog' search, where you can surf all kinds of blogs on a specific topic. Both of these unique features are highly useful, and I cannot live online without having one of them around!

Who wins? Well, it's clearly a draw!

The Email Service Is Where The Rubber Meets The Road

This is where the going gets tough. Both of these search engine networks offer outstanding email services. So the question is this: Is Yahoo Mail better than Gmail? Well, I don't know the stats and all those complicated stuff, but I agree that Yahoo is the "the best frequented web based email", as stated on the Yahoo Mail home page. However, Gmail seems to be catching along pretty quick.

This is an unofficial verdict, but I think Yahoo wins by a narrow margin -- a split decision.

Google Adwords/Adsense vs. Yahoo Search Advertising

The advertising and publishing service that Yahoo offers appeals to big website owners. When I say 'big', I meant websites that have huge amounts of commercial traffic, and this includes company home pages, professional business sites, and websites owned by companies which are popular in the world. However, Yahoo Search Advertising is a pay per click method that is yet to outperform the Google advertising system (am I biased? I don't think so). Here's why:

Google Adwords (advertising aspect), and Google Adsense (publishing aspect), appeals to the 'little guy' and individual blog/website owners. Virtually anyone who has a blog or website can advertise and publish with Google. And because Google owns Blogger.com (one of the largest free blog providers), anyone who has a Blogger account can register with Google Adsense, a pay per click publishing service that pays you for placing Google ads on your blog. This unique appeal to the masses places Google on top of all online advertising systems, and they might stay on top for a long time. So in terms of advertising, Google wins by KO!

But when it comes to indicating which is the best search engine on this planet, YOU will be the one to ultimately decide. So what's your pick?

To Increase Google Page Rank, Write About What You Know

There is no question that Google is the number one search engine on the Internet. When it comes to SEO, or search engine optimization, you should be tailoring your website's search ability toward Google.

In order to increase the success of your SEO campaign you must be able to increase your Google Page Rank. Your Google Page Rank tells you how important Google thinks your website is.

There are a number of factors that goes into calculating the Google Page Rank, all of which are highly top secret, or so we are told. It has been deducted by viewing previous versions of the Google Page Rank algorithm, the parts they let everyone see, that quality back links to your website is a strong indicator for increasing your site's Page Rank.

A great way to obtain quality back links to your website and at the same time help increase your Google Page Rank is to write articles that cover topics related to your website. At the bottom of your articles you will have what is called an article resource box. It will be in this resource box that you will post a small bio about yourself and post a link to your website.

Let's say for example you have a web site that sells digital cameras. I would suggest that you write articles on taking good photographs or how to use the zoom options and so on. Then in the resource box your bio would look like this, “John J. Doe is the owner of website name where they have over 500 different models of digital cameras for sale.”

Once you have written your article, including the resource box, you will then post this article to various article directories around the web such as Ezine or ArticleDashboard.

Websites such as Ezine or ArticleDashboard allow you to post your articles free of charge. More importantly visitors to those article directories are looking for content. If they like your article and it is what they are looking for they will then use your article, links and all, to post on their own websites and blogs.

Continue this process daily writing one to two articles each day, and in 30 to 60 days you will notice a huge increase in the number of visitors to your website, but more importantly with each Google indexing, the process by which Google determines your page rank, you will see your page rank increase. It won't go from 0 to 10 overnight but it will increase over time.

Now wash, rinse and repeat this cycle and you will continue to add links pointing back to your site, content to the web and of course your expertise which will go a long way in attracting visitors.

Although no one knows the Google Page Rank algorithm except its inventors, one thing is for sure you need to get quality back links, and a lot of them in order to increase your Google Page Rank which brings your website to the top of search results.

How to Use Blogging as a Terrific Source for Online Income

The internet is a great place to connect with friends and relatives, or to interact with people halfway across the globe. But aside from that, it can also be a source of extra income for you - if you know how. There are many ways to make real money online, without being scammed or doing something stupid. One of the most popular ways is BLOGGING.

Blogging can be a terrific source of online income. All you need to get started is a free account at Blogger.com. You need to carefully choose a topic (or niche) for your blog. For example, some bloggers write about weight loss, others write about music, while some others stick to movies. Be creative in choosing the topic or niche of your blog, as it will be a very important asset of your blog viewership in the long

After you setup your blog account, you may start filling your new blog with lots of content. This should start the ball rolling. I recommend that when you start a new blog, place at least five new posts on it immediately, and then you may choose to add more posts on a regular basis.

The most important step is to setup your own Google Adsense account. To do this, go to www.google.com/adsense and then setup your free account. At some point in the free account creation process, Google will ask you to provide the URL/web address of your blog. As soon as you do that, they will "crawl" the content of your blog. If they see that your blog content does not violate the Google terms and conditions, your Adsense application will be approved and you may now start blogging for cash.

How Do Big-Time Bloggers Earn Money?

If your Google Adsense application becomes approved, you may start displaying Google ads on your blog, and when your blog readers and website visitors click those ads, Google will pay you a fraction of the income paid by the advertisers. Sounds easy? Well, think again. In order to be a successful blogger, you need to follow these helpful guidelines:

Learn How to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

This means, you must be able to invite more visitors and viewers to your blog page. There are so many blogs created everyday, and yet so many are unnoticed. Learn how to make your blog stand out, and promote it well. (For tips about driving traffic, read my article, "How To Drive More Traffic To Any Website" )

Don't Be Lazy

Add and post new content on your blog on a regular basis. For example, if your blog is about celebrity news, make sure you add recent news thatpeople will want to read. If your last post was made 5 years ago., very few or no one will be interested in your blog.

Make Your Blog Come Alive By Using Professional Design Templates

This is self explanatory.

As soon as you start following the basic blogging tips we just mentioned above, you are ready to employ more advanced blogging tips in the near future, and eventually make more money.

How Do I Increase my Search Rankings?

”The strongest single factor in prosperity consciousness is self-esteem: believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you will get it.” By Jerry Gillies: Author and workshop leader

As someone who runs a website I understand people's frustration when you work extremely hard to build a great site, add a lot of functionality to make it a hit with web surfers and no one visits. You could spend a ton of money on pay-per-click advertising, however more often than not, people who arrive at your website through pay-per-click advertising are nothing more than “tire kickers”. In other words they really have no intention of buying or registering, they are just curious as to what you have to offer.

In steps the variety of search engines from which your potential customers can locate your website. The best part is you did not have to pay for them to find you. The issue arises as to how you can get your website to rank higher on those search engines.

There is no question that there are a number of ways to do this, but in this article we will cover a couple of them to get you started.

Start with adding content to your site that is related to what ever it is you are selling. In other words let's say you sell widgets. Start adding content to your site related to widgets. Simply write informative articles about the products. Do not allow your articles to sound like infomercials or advertisements. The reader of your article should come out knowing more about widgets then when they went in.

This content now becomes indexed searchable text by all the search engines. So let's say you have an article titled “How to use a widget properly?” When people do a search with those keywords you will appear higher in the rankings so as long as there aren't hundreds of other websites with similar articles. This brings us up to issue number two.

In order for your content to appear higher than that of other websites your site itself must be ranked higher. This is simply done with back links. The more websites that point back to your website without you having to point back to theirs will drive your website way up the ranking system of most search engines.

This can be accomplished by writing additional articles related to widgets and submitting them to many article directories such as Ezine or Article Dashboard. Do not submit the same article you wrote earlier. That will defeat the purpose of adding the content to your website in the first place. Instead make sure your article is new and well written content so other websites can add it to their site. At the bottom of the article, called the resource box, add in your tag line with a link to your website. It should read something like this, “Mr. Jones is the CEO of Widget International. To learn more about their widgets visit their website at .”

Just make sure the link to the website is an active link so people can click on it. This can be done by enclosing the link in html anchor tags. More importantly than people being able to click on this link is the fact that the search engine spiders see this as a one way active link, pointing back to your website. One way links are the strongest links your website can have.

Above are just two of the ways you can increase your search engine ranking and get closer to the top of those results. Keep repeating this process and over time you will have enough content and enough back links where search engines will invariably put your website in the number one position.

Five Things You Didn't Know Google Could Do

Google
is widely known as the Internet's best search engine. Everybody with access to the internet uses Google at some point to scour the depths of the web for a particular web page, or a certain piece of information.

However, Google has several built in functions that help you to make your searches more successful, and to enable you to spend less time searching! The following is a list of 5 functions, all accessible from the main Google search box, which will help you find that snippet of information you are looking for.

Removing Unwanted Pages

Ever searched for something before, and had a whole list of completely irrelevant web pages come up? This is annoying at the best of times, as it takes time to check and read through the list of sites and find the one you actually want.

For example, if you were looking for a review of the book "Eragon", and you typed into Google “Eragon review”, many of the links listed are reviews of the movie, not the book. Because you are not looking for a review of the movie, you can remove all pages relevant to the movie by adding “-movie” to the end of your search terms.

This will now display all the pages relevant to "eragon review", but not relevant to "movie".

Calculator

Google can be used as a calculator, answering anything from the simplest math to the most complex equation. Just enter your math question, and Google will display the answer.

+ is used to add terms, - to subtract terms, * to multiply terms, and / to divide terms. Besides these basic operators, you can use ^ to work out something to the power of something (for example, “2^4” would be 2 to the power of 4), and "sqrt" to calculate the square root of a number (for example, “sqrt 4” would be the square root of 4).

Dictionary Definitions

By typing “define:” before a word, Google will retrieve and display a list of dictionary definitions for that word.

Search A Single Website

If you type "site:" and then a website after a search term, Google will search for your term(s) in only the site dictated. For example, the following search will search Oxford University's Website for the term "prospectus."

Search for A Specific File Type

As I am sure you are aware, there are many files hosted on the internet besides the standard html websites. Therefore, searching for a specific type of file could make your search a lot easier. For example, if you were looking for a PDF version of the iPhone manual, you could use the following search, which would produce more accurate (and less) results.

Here the "filetype:" tool is making Google search the web for PDF files only, therefore eliminating any pages that we didn't want to see.

These are just 5 useful functions that Google can perform, there are many more for you to discover, and they can all be mixed and matched! I hope this helped you to find that ever-elusive page or snippet of info. Have fun, and happy searching!

SEO for Beginners

This post is aimed at a pretty specific audience...just thought I'd make that clear from "go." This topic will be of value to website owners, creators, marketers and researchers. Our topic will be SEO of Search Engine Optimization. Let's start at the beginning. How about a definition.

Search Engine Marketing are terms used to describe the way in which a site is built, from myriad angles, and how the way a site is put together dramatically affects were it lands in a search engine's results pages. Search engine results pages are the pages that come up when you type in a keyword, or set of keywords, in any search engine and click the "search" button. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to define this as well...Search Engines are programs that quickly search and index all the sites networked through the internet. Examples of the biggest search engines would be Google, Yahoo, MSN and Alta Vista.

You may be thinking thus far, "well, this is all fabulous, but why is it important." It's very simple, really. Everyone who has a website wants it to be seen, whether it's because you're an organization trying to build the public's awareness of what you do, or you're a site that sell products and services. Without people seeing your site, your site does you very little good. So, we're going to talk about how to get your site seen by as many people as possible! Sound good?

Alright, well the first place to start is to discuss a little bit about how search engines index pages. You've probably noticed while performing searches on Google or Yahoo that when you type in a particular keyword (or set of keywords) the same sites tend to appear, over and over, on the search results pages. Being on the first page of search results has very plain significance. It basically means that the search engine likes those sites, a lot. You definitely want search engines to like you, because it's a pretty simple equation: higher page rank=more traffic=great returns for you! Unless you're in business to lose money or turn people off, you fall into those who benefit greatly from that equation (you also probably aren't actually a business, just an FYI ;-)). But, there are some very specific things that every site must master to have search engines like them. Though, there is no perfect formula for search engine success, I can run through some basic things that will definitely help you get more traffic. So, here we go...

Let's start on the foundation. The foundation of any and every site is the HTML, or Hyper Text Markup Language. HTML is the standard language that's read by search engines and allows you to link any text or media, whatsoever, to any other text or media content, anywhere on the web. So, it's vitally important to have your HTML soundly written. Some of the basics of good HTML are: good keyword meta-tags, appealing, user and eye-friendly page layout and excellent copy (site text), with a proper keyword density, which is usually approximately 3-5%. HTML is vital, but it's not the whole story. Not nearly.

Secondly, your site must have attractive graphics, natural eye movement conducive flow, and text, A LOT of text. Search engines happen to love sites that are loaded with information. But, it's important for you to organize that information well, because you can just put 50,000 words of text on your website's homepage and expect a search engine to be kind to you. No, you must have good text content throughout all of the site, and (which is the third necessity) it must be very easy to navigate from the homepage to any other content within the site quickly and easily. Search engines love article postings, blogs and link outs to other, good and relevant content. A good site map, in this case is vital. It should be logical, intuitive and put the user at ease, at all times. You never want a user (or search engine) to be somewhere on your site and not know how to get back to the homepage or head somewhere else they want go within the site.

...Side note. As you may be beginning to see, each of the elements that go into a good SEO strategy are HUGE subjects unto themselves. But, we're just giving a survey here...

Anyway, let's get back to it. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you need a good linking strategy. I'm going to give you some basics here as to what that means, and how you can achieve it. Cool? Alright, here it goes. Allow me to share what I've learned in 3 categories.

First of all, post as much as you can and often as you can to blogs, forums, etc. These blogs and forums will let you include your URL, which means every one you finish gains you an incoming link. This is somewhat time consuming, but very effective.

Secondly, and perhaps the most obvious, is to ask the top sites in your niche if they'd be willing to exchange links with you...which you can usually do via their "Contact Us" page. This benefits you in two distinct ways: first, you're again gaining the incoming links, but secondly...those top sites are sites liked by Search Engines, meaning they've done a lot of things right, and having a link from them looks very good to a SE.

Third and Finally, Post articles on any topic about which you have knowledge. The best place to do this are ezine directories. These directories will generally accept a decent article, and there are some huge benefits here. First, you can post MULTIPLE articles to the same ezine. Secondly, each time you post an article, you get a chance to include your URL (that's right...another incoming link). And thirdly, other ezine readers can take your article, if the like it and put it on their site...and...you guessed, your link goes with them as well. And, that about does it.

So, I very much hope you've found this helpful and informative and that as you learn more about each of these ingredients for good SEO you'll find great success!

What the Heck is This SEO Stuff, Anyway?

Chances are you, the website owner, hired someone with the idea that you were getting great SEO result and found that your results were only mediocre at best.

Oddly enough, it is not just smaller companies that are confused by the entire SEO issue, but larger firms suffer from SEO confusion. Also, higher priced doesn't always mean better service. Shop around and ask the hard questions before hiring an SEO firm.

The thing to remember is that SEO has changed since the beginning. Search engine algorithms have evolved and are far more sophisticated. This evolution means that the guidelines are continually changing.

A New Idea

SEO is a little more than ten years old. In the beginning, webmasters began optimizing sites by submitting a page or two to search engines that would then send out a searchbot or spider to crawl that page, extract links to the other pages in the site and gather the information found on the pages it finds.

The process involved a search engine spider downloading a page and storing it on the search engine's own server when a second application, known as an indexer, extracts the information found on the pages. The information about the pages, such as the words found on the pages, links, where everything is located on the page, is then placed into a scheduler to be crawled again at a later date.

Early versions of search engine algorithms relied solely on the webmaster providing information through the metatags, or index files. Metatags provided a kind of road map to the page's content. As soon as webmasters realized this was the procedure, it became an unreliable system because webmasters could manipulate keywords and descriptions so that they had nothing at all to do with the actual page content.

Google is Born in 1998

All of this changed when Google arrived on the scene in 1998. Not only was Google's simple page design appealing to Internet users, users liked the off-page factors such as page ranking and the on-page analysis of a website. This eliminated the keyword manipulation that plagued other search engines.

SEO Today

SEO today is improving the volume of website traffic and the quality of visitors to the site via the use of targeted keywords. An SEO expert has to think like their consumer, and they also have to understand how the algorithms work. SEO should involve the site's code, overall design, text-rich content, accurate navigation and eliminate anything that would prevent a spider from crawling the entire site.

In addition to organic searches to the site, a good SEO firm will establish a pay-per-click advertising campaign to boost site visibility. Google considers popularity a major factor when ranking a page.

A well-conceived plan will attack the web from several different angles at the same time. Social networking is an important factor as well as inbound links. The inbound links have to be chosen carefully and have a relationship to the website in some way. Otherwise, Google may consider the site simply a link farm.

Five Handy Tips to Enhance Your Google Searches!

Ever gone to
Google
, typed in what you wanted, only to be yielded with terrible results? It has happend to most of us more than once. There are many different methods and characters you can put in your searches to enhance your results.

These are just a few of the things you can do with Google to enhance your search results. Google grows bigger by the day and continues to add more features for its users. Hope this helps!

Quotations

This is the easiest and probably the best way to get what you're looking for. If you're just searching for one word, this isn't necessary. But if you're wanting to type in a few different phrases, quotes can help you get better results. Say you wanted to do a search for a Led Zeppelin cover band. You could type in "Led Zeppelin" "Cover Band", and Google will search for websites with those two phrases.

Unsure what word to use?

Simple, type in both words and seperate them with OR in capitol letters. What this will do is search websites for either one of the words.

 Need a certain filetype?

Type in your search criteria, followed by filetype:whatever. So say you're looking for a .pdf file with a tutorial on photoshop. You would type in: photoshop tutorial filetype:pdf. This will yield all the pages in .pdf that are photoshop tutorials.

Can't find that article on your favorite website?

With a simple search, you can filter Google to show only results from a certain website. So say you want to do a search on politics from aol.com. You would type in: politics site:aol.com. This will yield anything on aol.com that has the world politics in it.

Looking for just the title of the page?

To do a search of just website titles, all you need to type in is: allintitle: whatever. This will search websites for just the key words you typed in.

These are just a few of the things you can do with Google to enhance your search results. Google grows bigger by the day and continues to add more features for its users. Hope this helps!
