Earn Money with Knol

Google has launched a new project called knol which is in its beta stage and has been launched recently to public at large. As knol website states "A Knol is an authoritative article about a specific topic."

Many people on the web are saying it is Google's alternative competitor of Wikipedia, but as i can see it, they are two completely different projects all together with their own utilities and strengths. As one of the main distinguishing features in a knol is that its in the writers hands to allow if others can edit their articles or not or whether they want to collaborate and write, so there are a host of new controls there and though a knol can be a knowledge page about anything, unlike Wikipedia it can have many different pages about the same things from different writers. You can check out more detailed information about knol at the wikipedia page for knol here and you can check out official knol page here http://knol.google.com

Now coming to the earning money from knol. It is quite pleasing to know that you can choose to display adsense ads besides your knols and earn on the revenue they generate and you get to keep all, yes 100% of the profits generated from your knols. Isnt that great, So go ahead and start writing about the things you know about and earn 100% of the revenue generated from your knols.

My Top-Secret Writing Blog and Why Every Writer Should Have One

Among my many blogs and internet accounts is one blog nobody but me can read--- my private writing blog. Here I put my various writing efforts such as chapters from the novels I'm writing. Since the blog is set to allow only the blog author to read the posts, it is completely private.

Why do I do this? One reason lies in a bit of advice mentioned by Jerry B. Jenkins in his book 'Writing for the Soul'--- someday, every computer is going to die. If you are unlucky, some of your files will die with it. We all know we are supposed to back up our work, but we may not do so often enough.

Jenkins suggests emailing your chapters to yourself, and this is a fairly good idea, provided you can put the emails in a folder where you can find them again. But a private blog works well also, and has the advantage that you can sort your writing with tags and thus find what you are looking for more easily. I tag each post with the form of the writing--- 'novel' for a novel chapter, and 'notes' or 'outline' for those kinds of files. Then I create a tag for each individual work--- 'gems-of-kolbe' for any chapters, notes or outlines pertaining to my novel-in-progress Gems of Kolbe. Clicking on a tag in the tag list on the side of the blog brings up all posts with that tag.

Another reason to use a private blog is that then you can easily work on your writing at different computers. When I am at my mother's house and she is watching a chick flick that I don't care for, I go to her computer and work on my novel.

My third reason for using this method is a personal one. I write far more often in blogs than I do working on my writing on my word processing program. The blog format seems more friendly to me. So this way I can work on the novel and have it seem like blogging.

I also save copies of my work on my home computer, of course. I'll need to have an electronic copy of the whole work when I go in search of publishers. But my private blog gives me the security of having a back-up copy in a different location from my computer. I used to worry sometimes--- what would happen if a house fire or a burglary took not only my computer, but my back-up disks? Now I don't have to worry about that any more.

Not all blog host allow private blogs. My first private writing blog was on Livejournal since at the time Blogger didn't have that option. Now that Blogger does, I've started a private blog there since that is where I keep all my public blogs, not to mention my cat's blog. Blogger is very easy to use, and now has a feature to easily change your layout. This is how I added a list of my tags (labels) to the blog. To set your writing blog to private, go to the 'permissions' tab under 'Settings' and choose to make your blog available only to the author. It's that simple.

How secure is a private blog? I don't know, but I imagine if you are a top writer like Patricia Cornwell there is a chance you might be hacked. The same goes if you email your writing to yourself and store it online that way. The best thing to do if you worry about hackers is to use a blog host for your private blog that you don't use for public blogs, and to have a username and a password that are obscure mixes of numbers and letters.

My private blog makes my writing life both easier and more secure. That's why I believe that every writer may wish to have a top-secret writing blog of their own.

I Can't Believe I Picked This as my Career Choice

I was hanging out with my friends on Facebook one afternoon when a somewhat annoying ad popped up on my screen. In a normal instance I would have closed the ad and disregarded it entirely, but this ad was different. Something about it caught my attention. I think it was probably part that said "make money just by writing blogs you honkey!" The fact that I was a honkey that could make money caught my attention quickly. I clicked on the link and it brought me to Triond, an online advertising company that makes money through people like me. Naturally I signed up for the whole deal. I quit my regular job as a customer service representative for a trucking company because I figured it would be much more difficult than writing a few blogs every day.

I was right.

Soon after I joined Triond I wrote my first masterpiece entitled "Treatise on Love." I figured it would be an instant hit. Unfortunately it didn't catch on right away, but I wasn't worried. I just figured I would write something equally fascinating to get my career started. A few days later I wrote an essay concerning the futures of single parents. It received 4 views in the first day.

THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!

I'm about a week in to my new career and I have made about two cents, American. At my old job I earned about 350 dollars weekly. As you might guess this is putting considerable economic stress on my family, which consists of me, my dog Shasta, and my three goldfish, who are particularly disappointed at my recent failures.

Though I intend to continue my work on Triond I now know that I must find an alternate means to keep my family afloat. I figure I should be a pretty high-profile find for any employer; I graduated Cum Laude from my high school and was a member of our FBLA for the last three months of my senior year.

The Western Union mode of payment is one of the reasons that makes Triond different from most Paid to Write/Blog sites. This is also one of the reasons why the Triond publisher’s population is escalating really fast. This payment system completes what Paypal and the check lacks. Through this, all the countries in the world can join Triond. Even aliens from Jupiter can join as long as they have agents there. In fact, I myself had chosen it as my payment method.

Paypal

Paypal is unarguably the number one online payment processor today. But Paypal is not for everyone. First, Paypal is not available in all countries. If ever it’s available, publishers cannot or will probably not choose it because you need to verify your account to get your money. To verify your account you need to link your credit or debit card. Some people are not comfortable with this. Second, should Paypal be available in their country, for some reasons, opening a credit or debit card account may not be easy for them or they simply don’t like to use plastic money. Payment via Paypal is preferable since the minimum is only $0.50 and sending the payment is free.

Check

The check mode of payment is preferred by others for any of the reasons mentioned above. The difference is, check is delivered by mail and you cannot get your money unless you exchange it at the bank. Your earnings will also lose $3.00 for the check processing fee. Other countries may not also choose this because the check might get lost in the mail. Check minimum payout is $50.00

Western Union

Western Union is one of the best things that ever happened to online paid writing. Western Union is available in most countries and territories. When the money has been sent, Triond will send an email containing the tracking number or the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN). To receive your money you have to go to the nearest Western Union agent in your area. Processing fee also applies. Amount varies by country. With Western Union, you don’t need credit or debit cards and there’s no need to worry about checks getting lost in the mail. The Triond minimum payment is also $50.00

Though the $50 minimum is quite a big amount to reach, it made me work harder promoting and writing more articles so I can reach it sooner. When that amount reaches my hands, it would then be worth all the wait. By the way, I received my very first payment this month. And the first thing I bought was…pizza!

Blogging has turned out to be a popular money minting machine for millions of people. It is a platform where you not only air out your views but also a sure way of earning more income.

Writing posts, no matter how creative, may not be the magic bullet that will win the audience. Plug-in and widgets are crucial in attracting more traffic to your blog. Some of the most important plugins via wordpress that will help increase hits to your website include:

1. Related Post Plug-in

People have unique needs when it comes to web content material. A visitor searching for real estate would certainly want related information such as mortgage or homes for sale. This is where a related or similar post plug-in comes in handy.

It will assist in displaying related articles on the website. The plugin has special spiders that assist in bringing together web content based on characteristics such as similar titles or close meaning. This goes a long way in getting more hits for your website.

2. Casual Post Plug-in

This plugin is the direct opposite of the related post. Casual or Random plugin outlines articles that are different from the one that the user is searching. This assists users to explore other topics in the blog that may be of interest in future.

Blogs that are updated quite often usually contain huge volumes of data that may go unnoticed by a casual blogger. The random plugin assists in bringing to the fore other information that may be bypassed by the user.

3. Ajax Comment Posting

This plugin helps to make a blog more interactive and easy to use. The basic purpose of a blog is for users to post their views. If they cannot do this easily and conveniently then they will most probably run. The commenting plugin assists users to post their views without having to reload the current page. It also assists in ensuring that the postings are done in a correct manner.

An opportunity to post comments makes a website livelier and easier to connect with the reader. Easy posting of views in a website is a sure way of retaining users who use a website.

4. The Smart Archives Plug-in

This plugin assists in putting content in the archives in a fashionable and easy to read manner. Material in the archives is crucial; the smart archive plugin assists in creating links to this material.

This makes it easier for users to refer to any material they may need for their immediate use. This plugin is also easy to upgrade to the current wordpress without risk of loss of any information.

5. Post Match Search Query Plug-in

Once in a while users are directed to a blog courtesy of search engines like Yahoo, MSN or Google. The search query plugin assists users to locate the precise information they are looking for.

In a blog, related content is always as good as the searched word. That is why this plugin assists in presenting related content which could ultimately be very useful to the user.

The plug-ins above are few but they go along way in increasing traffic to your blog. Using them is sure bet of increasing hits to your blog.

Translating with "Google Translate" Tool

When translating softcopy from one language to target language, you can use translator tool provided by Google. "Goggle translate" tool is supporting tool.

Like another translation tools, it needs human touch because when you translate, you focus on meaning and the meaning is not only mathematical pattern of sentences and words. The pattern of sentence and grammatical rule of one language is different to another language.

You can apply the following tips when using ¨Google translate”:

It is better if you translate the text of softcopy. So, you can copy the text then paste it at the form provided in “Google translate” tool, paragraph by paragraph or sentence by sentence.

Before submitting the text for translation, check whether you have change the option of source language and target language

Press "submit" button, then you will have translation at the right side

Check whether the sentence is properly translated. Check whether the translation word is appropriate to the meaning because sometimes a word may have more than one meaning.

Check whether it is grammatically correct and has the same meaning of source text

Copy the translation text and paste to the notepad because you cannot edit it on the Google page

Don't copy and paste it directly on the page of Microsoft Word or Open Office because it will also copy the pictorial entity of goggle translation page

You should use notepad first if you use Windows or use KWrite if you use Linux Mandriva to make sure that you only copy the text

Copy the text in the notepad and paste it on the MS Word page, if you want to save it in MS Word document

In my opinion, in my experience in translating text from English to Bahasa Indonesia, the “Google translate” tool is not for those who do not understand the source and target language but it is to help those who have understand how to translate.

However, the time for translating becomes more efficient, because you do not need to write and think word by word.

Besides, “Google Translate” can also translate the whole text of Web Page by submitting the url address of the web page.

It aslso provides the dictionary and “translated search.”

Tips on Guest Blogging

Guest Blogging has become a fad these days. It has become an easy means to gain popularity at the expense of those blogs which are a favorite with the masses. This not only increases the traffic on the guest blogger's writings but also gives him an exposure to reach those people who might not have else wise got to his blogs.

A great advantage of a guest blog is that it is sustainable in nature. Even if your post was around two or three weeks old, still you can hope to get good traffic on your site for it is still prevalent in the archives of the new blog which is one of the most visited part of those much frequented sites.

There are dozens of things to be kept in mind before putting up your best article on someone else's page. Considering that you are doing this for attracting traffic on your site, remember to give it your best shot. The reader must be so influenced by your skills that he should not be left with an option but to have a craving to read your material further.

Some tips to Follow:

1. Always chalk out your plan. Know what you are wanting out of this guest blog so you can put in measured efforts. In every walk of life, till the time you are not aware of what you want from something that you are doing, i.e. its motive, you would possibly mess it up because of confusion.

2. Try and link all your previous guest blogs to mark your proficiency in your work. Your past experience does give you a cut above those who are new to any field.

3. It is very essential to keep up the quality of work that you are doing. It is something that you are doing for your own free publicity, so make sure to make the best use out of the opportunity.

4. For getting the best reviews, chose the type of blog carefully. You need to convince your readers to get along with your writings in the future so it will be advisable to stick on to the topics that are your strengths. Thereon, chose the blog, which is at the top level these days, and hence carry forward your ideas.

5. Knowing how to create an alliance with the parent blogger of the blog where you want to post your work has become a necessity. Some people that I know tend to talk to the prescribed person over four or five mails to discuss every nook of the thing they need to proceed with. An intelligent person would probably read all the instructions already mentioned on the instruction's page for guest bloggers

6. Once you are through with the posting and getting a good response, do not assume your job to be over. Start discussions, debates and ask for suggestions. This will keep the blog lively and more read.

7. It is sometimes very embarrassing to realize that you have made very noticeable blunders after you read the published work. And, it is very embarrassing to ask for editing. Hence, either hire a pro proof reader or do it yourself before the submission.

Five "can't Miss" Sites for Web Research

When I was starting out as a freelance writer, research meant going to the library and spending hours wandering through the stacks looking for books or articles. It was time-consuming, because you almost needed a degree in Library Science to be able to find things easily. I used to get overwhelmed and distracted, and end up spending twice as much time as I had allotted.
Now, it’s much easier. The Internet has put billions of words at our fingertips, and unless you want to hold a book or magazine in your hands, or you just like the atmosphere in a library, online research is the way to go.

I do online research every day, and I even write a newsletter about it. I am constantly amazed by the number of Web sites out there with good, reliable research information. Whatever subject you’re interested in, you’ll find plenty of resources for it online. Here’s a sampling of sites that I recommend to anyone doing research. They’re not the only good sites out there, but they have a track record of providing information you can depend on.

1. The WWW Virtual Library. This one’s been around for a long time in Net years, and it’s still going strong. It has portals (Agriculture, Engineering, Law, Sports, etc.) to broad categories of information, and within each there are sub-categories where you can fine-tune your search. These “virtual libraries” can be started by anyone who has an interest in a subject and wants to create a portal with links to that subject. Some of the categories of information have not been kept up to date, but you can still find nuggets of useful information – and the ones that are actively updated are terrific.

2. Biographical Dictionary. The s9.com Biographical Dictionary has been around since 1997 and has profiles of more than 33,000 men and women who have shaped our world, from ancient times to the present. You can search it by birth and death dates, positions held, professions, literary and artistic works, achievements, and other
keywords.

3. Public Records. There are more and more public records coming online every day, and these provide a great way to research individuals and companies. You can learn so much by looking at these records, and they’re all available with the click of a mouse. Some databases charge a fee for access, but this article has a list of free or low-cost databases that you can search.

4. Martindale’s “The Reference Center”. Martindale’s has been around since I first started my newsletter in the mid-1990s, and it’s only gotten better. Scroll down the page and you’ll find links to resources on every subject imaginable. One really useful part of Martindale’s is the Calculators Online Center, which has calculators and conversion tools for hundreds of subjects.

5. VIBES stands for Virtual International Business & Economic Sources, and this site has some excellent links to first-rate business information. It’s maintained by a librarian at the University of North Carolina, Jeanie Welch, and she updates it regularly. It has 3,500 links, and all of them are free, accurate, and information-rich. If you do business research, especially international business research, this is the place to start.

There you have it – a collection of sites that I recommend for starting any type of research project. There are plenty of others, but these are a few of the best.

Earlier this year I discovered blogging. I was trying to get an online store started and decided that maybe if i started a blog related to the store I might get some good business advertising from it. Well, sorry to say, I never got the business up and running and gave up on that. However, blogging became pretty much a new pasttime for me. I am now the author of 8 blogs and enjoy reading other blogs as well.

Since I began blogging, I have noticed that just about everywhere you look, businesses, celebrities, authors, newspapers, and everyday people have blogs. I created mine through Blogger for free, but you can also create blogs on Typepad, which charges a low monthly fee, Homestead where you can try it for free for the first 30 days then pay a low monthly fee, or a few others.

Blogs are fun because they allow you to create a place online where you can be yourself. You can design however you want, say what you want, add pictures, Youtube video feeds, connect with other bloggers, get feedback, leave feedback, and you can even place money making ads on your blogs. All of my blogs are about things that I enjoy. I have a blog of photos and artwork that my kids have done, The World Through Ryan and James' Eyes, one about books, Christy's Book Cafe, where you can find book reviews and links to blogs by James Patterson and Tess Gerritson. My favorite blog to work on right now is Creativity In Writing where I share the writings of talented writers here on Triond. I have enjoyed adding to my blogs and finding the blogs of other people.

If you go to the website of your favorite author, I bet you will find a blog link for them. Go ahead, take a look, click on that link and you might just find some interesting info about your author or their books. The fun thing about James Patterson is that he has a blog for himslef and a blog by Maximum Ride called Fly On. If you have read any of the Maximum Ride books, you will enjoy this blog.

Enjoy cruising? Check out Carnival Cruise Lines blog and John Heald's Blog about his cruising experiences. I have even discovered that several of my Triond friends have blogs of their own! I have linked all of them to my Creativity In Writing Blog so others can see tham as well. Some of them are Glynis Smy, Hein Marais, Jackie Stroud Painter, and Mary J. Dressel. I am truly enjoying visiting blogs and reading articles as well as sharing stories and reading comments from everyone!

Don't have a blog yet? Don't worry, check out some of the blogs that you find in your searches and you just might be inspired! I have read blogs about people reading books, about life on a ranch in Montana, about raising kids, biulding model airplanes, Dachshunds, and so much more! I have even read a post by a blog author that included a photo, about the horrible messy diaper she had to change on her baby! So, like I said before, be yourslef, talk about what interests you, and feel free to share your opinions with the world! If you have a blog, go ahaed and leave the address in the comments section and I will "come for a visit" soon!
