The Weirdest Things are Crawling on the Net

Strange!!!

This is the strangest clock/calendar I have ever seen. It's really cool!

Cool!!

This is the coolest handwritten clock/calendar that is very impressing. You may want to keep this in your PC. But, if you want an ambient clock, you should authenticate with Google to connect your Google Calendar to your clock here.

10,000 Coins Topple

There's a cool youtube video showing you 10,000 coins topple like dominoes. Those coins appear to be thicker than American nickels. Some of the motions may be a bit unnatural from the point of physics. It sounds boring when the coins move up and down the ramps made of stack of coins to the end. You may scream, “Coins, c'mon, move on!”

Greeting Hello in over 800 Languages

Now, you've no problem to greet the world “Hello” in more than 800 languages. But how accurate is it? I am doubt of its accuracy. I think some of the “Hello” phrases in Japanese are no longer used in everyday conversations. Of course, “konnichiwa” is always heard, but the dialectical phrases, particularly the “Kansai-ben” will probably appear awkward to the local people there as they are rarely used for conversation these days.

Get Lose in this Game!

This is claimed as the world's most addictive game. The U.S. Air Force Academy uses it to train its pilots. They've to stay alive in this game for as long as 40 seconds. The first couple milliseconds are the hardest part, but it will eventually become easy to pass through. Once you get passed 10 seconds, it'll go very fast. Its speed generally varies accordingly with your network connection or computer.

Can You Spin the Pen Like This?

Now, follow the music, and start spinning your pen as shown in the video. It's interesting, right? Can you do most of the tricks shown to pass your time?

What Codes are These?

These codes appear to me as ASCII art, and this website seems to be very odd and pointless. It was the weirdest website created in 1995 and its HTML source code reveals a detailed diagram of a hydrogen bomb. It is said to be a diagram plan for 2 types of nuclear form which can be found here.

What s Your BMI?

This is a type of BMI calculator used to measure your ideal weight. It requests your height, and frame size but does not ask for your gender. It will then give you a simple way to decide your frame size. You might have shocked at what you should really weight! But, I recommend the other website for an accurate calculation. Give yourself a try here!

Have This Website to Waste Your Time!

These are by far the most interesting and fantastic flash games to waste your time. There are a variety of games here to kill your boredom. These games are awesome, I particularly like “Turbo penguin”.

Very Funny Video Clip!

This is a funny youtube video clip. One yoga guy fights with 2 Kung Fu fighters in the movie called “Kung Fu vs Yoga”. Can a Yoga guy behave like this way?

Beware of TeenScreen!!!

TeenScreen is part of Bush's National Mandated Mental Health Screening program. This test takes 10 minutes to diagnose the mentality health of the kids. When it was done in Colorado, America, 71% of the kids who involved in this test were diagnosed to have a mental disorder. I am wondering how Bush would do on this test…Below is what I quoted from Wiki:

"This has become a source of controversy as some have alleged that TeenScreen is merely a scheme to market psychiatric drugs. [10] In addition, some of TeenScreen's executives and advisory board members have ties to pharmaceutical companies. [11] Some of the symptoms that TeenScreen uses as indicators of mental illness can also be caused by physical illnesses, allergies, poor nutrition, lacked of sleep, drug abuse, and toxic exposure. [12] TeenScreen refers students flagged by the screening process to psychiatric professionals."

Music GenreVisualization

This is a very cool but awesome website that you should give it a try. It's an iPod-like radio which enables you to listen to songs from many genres. There's a huge variety of music to suit your needs. Just click somewhere in the matrix: energetic/clam and dark/positive. The more on the right you click on, the more music to satisfy your ears. One unique interesting feature is that you can choose which years you wish to listen.

Build Your Own Search Robot!

This awesome website sounds great to you, right? Now, you can build a Search robot to place in search engines like Yahoo, Google, and other Web 2.0 sites. It'll also continuously scour social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, Digg and even other websites. Your searchbot is brilliant enough to search the web by color and the mood as well. Why don't you give it a try?

And You Thought Your Eyes are Good?

How good are your eyes? Can you find the “C”? I think this website is good for checking your eyesight too. If you can't spot the alphabet, then you've to get a pair of spectacles. Now, try this below, can you spot the “O” hidden among the “Q” alphabets? How many "O" did you find?

iTunes: How To

I've had a bit of trouble with iTunes in the past, the problem is, that you have just gotten a brand spanking new computer and you love your music too! You use iTunes and you can't find that damned link on the Apple website that explains how to move your favourite tunes on iTunes from one computer to another. Well my way not only explains how to move it to your new computer, but to your mate's, your girlfriend's, or whoever's computer you want, all you'll need is a USB memory stick (preferably, but it makes no difference what memory drive you use) copy and paste the song (or video or podcast ect.) you want from iTunes to your USB (or other device).

You then go to your nice new, shiney computer (or mates, or girlfriend ect), plug, slide or shuve your drive or CD into the USB port or whatever the drive goes into (I'm not getting hung up with “technical words”) then open iTunes on the new computer then a window with the music in it should have opened, if not, look in windows explorer for PC and HD for mac (I think, I use PC for this…), click, hold and slid the files from the folder to iTunes it's really that simple.

Download Youtube Video

Have you ever wanted to not only watch but also download a YouTube video? It is indeed possible and not only can you download the video, you can also have it downloaded in a converted format so that it is compatible with your iPod.

There is a site Vixy where you can easily convert and download videos to your computer. All you need to do is copy the URL of the video on YouTube and paste it in the text field on the site. Vixy's system then resolves and converts the video and allows you to download it. Not only that, there is a range of options of formats in which to download the video.

AVI - Compatible with Windows

MOV - Compatible with Mac

MP4 - Compatible with iPod and PSP

3GP - Compatible with Mobiles

Sometimes you may only want to download the audio portion of a video (for example, the song from a music video). For this, you can select the last option which converts the video into only MP3(audio) format. In this way, you can download the song from a video to your computer.

Another site which can be used to download YouTube videos is Tech Crunch. The only thing is, the videos will be donwloaded in .FLV format.

Gadget Sites You Can't Live Without

If you're anything like me, you need to know about the latest and greatest electronics as soon as the news hits the masses. My friends are always coming up to me and asking questions about the latest technology or when the new iPods will be released. Here are 3 great websites that will help keep you up to date on the the worlds technology news.

Gizmodo

Gizmodo is a blog from Gawker Media, and gives up to date tech news with added humor. Besides keeping you informed, you'll get a laugh or two along the way.

Engadget

Often seen as Gizmodo's direct competitor, you may see some repeat news on this site, but oftentimes they will feature science related news stories that Gizmodo may pass up on. Another great daily.

Life Hacker

This may not be 100% dedicated to gadgets and technology, but the majority of the time this website focuses on tips and tricks to get your using your computers and devices more efficiently. Great downloads and How-Tos from lifehacker.

Free Your Airwaves: 13 Ear-pleasing Podcast Websites

There is a podcast out there for everyone. Probably, there is the perfect show for you to listen to, just sitting out there waiting for you to download and you don't even know it.

How is someone to find the perfect podcast? First, I guess I'll send you to some great sites that help you find those podcasts that have been patiently waiting to be found by you.

This is by far the best site to find podcasts (in this author's humble opinion). Podcasters submit their programs to be listed on the site. Once the show is successfully listed, the popularity of the podcast on the site is entirely dependent upon the listeners who must vote for the show. Vote tallies are reset every month to keep up with the changing popularity of shows.

Many podcasters list their shows on numerous sites, but I've noticed that there is a vast difference between the top one hundred shows on this site versus podcast alley, so I thought I should list it. I haven't found as many gems from this site, but it definitely lists some shows worth your time.

This, I suppose, is the most obvious to list. Simply go into the itunes store and select podcasts from the main menu. The main page will load with a wide variety of podcasts separated by categories. More importantly, itunes makes an effort to keep the front page from being dominated by any one media.

These resources should be useful in helping you find that perfect podcast for you. Now let me throw out some suggestions. The shows I'm about to list here are ones that I have been listening to for over a year. The audio quality is always good, which is important if you want to listen to the entire show.

As the name indicates, this is a political podcast. If you are left wing or liberal, this show will appeal to you. The host, Jack Clark, does an excellent job of presenting his opinions and viewpoints as well as backing up anything he says by citing the source. It is also important to note that the sources he uses are reliable and often used by the right wing which helps validate his arguments.

This is another political podcast that I use to help balance out my listening. Although not an all around right wing view point, the host Dan Carlin shares interesting and thought provoking non partisan opinions and ideas.

Yes, I know that this is a political podcast as well, but you have to admit that host Bill Maher is one funny guy. This podcast is the audio from Bill's weekly show on HBO. You don't have to subscribe to HBO to be able to download the show.

For those of you who want to gain knowledge from your podcast, I recommend this show. Host Mike Duncan does an excellent job of talking you through Roman history without falling into the trap of being boring. The information here is broken up by show into sort of chapters which helps keep all those repeating names from running together.

Another show meant to expand the horizons of its listeners, this show is a rebroadcast of the NPR intelligence squared radio debate show. The topic of discussion is always up to date and controversial. The debaters are well educated and notable in their respective fields. Listening is a little dry, but hearing the arguments is worth the suffering.

Host BJ Harrison weekly reads classic short stories from the public domain. The recording quality is excellent and BJ has an interesting voice that helps to present the stories nicely.

Stand up comic Keith and girl friend Chemda host this daily hour long show from their home in New York. They push the boundaries that radio cannot, due to their freedom from the FCC. The show contains explicit content but is very entertaining.

Host Tim Henson puts on this daily show of politically incorrect entertainment. The show is unique in that listeners can subscribe to a free side or to a paid subscription. The paid subscription provides more content to listeners. This show is also explicit and the humor is controversial.

This list would fall short of complete if it did not hold some video podcasts. The downloads from this show consist of up to five minute videos taken from National Geographic documentaries. They are as interesting and educational as you would expect from National Geographic.

This show, which is not anywhere near as edgy as the title suggests, is incredibly unique and entertaining. It features the video diary of a young girl with a made up disease that causes her to look like a middle aged man.

Hopefully this list will contain at least one show that you want to add to your subscription list. Feel free to leave comments of any shows that you think should have been included.

Blogging and the Myspace Generation: Gatecrashing Someone Else’s Therapy Session

I've long been a fan of the Internet, and have been on line for the best part of a decade now. The thing that appealed the most to begin with was the availability of information. As the Internet grew, it wasn't simply the availability of information that was significant, but also the availability of objects: I set up my eBay account in 1999 and it was nothing short of a revelation. All the books, records, videos, CDs I had dreamed of owning but had never been able to locate were all suddenly there, within reach. All of this is still true, although the global village has shrunk in my mind and my amazement at it has diminished as my familiarity has grown. But the Internet has evolved and mutated, as any society and culture does over time.

I've only relatively recently checked out the whole blogging thing: I never really saw the need or understood its purpose, at least fully. But then, it's only recently that I've investigated the social networking scene, too. In both instances, my assumptions have been proven wrong, on many levels, by many people. Social networking can be used for purposes other than being a glorified communal / public text / email centre for school kids to compare notes on the exchanges made while having a crafty fag behind the bike sheds or getting pissed round at Kelly's house on Friday night while her parents are away. Similarly a lot of blogs have surprised me, being well-written and well-considered, informed pieces of writing.

But then I've also encountered an awful lot of outpourings that have confirmed and even surpassed my worst fears. We live in a solipsistic egocentric age. Yes, it's the MYSpace generation. And it's MY space, and I'LL put whatever the hell I like on it. Fine. I'm all for freedom of expression, even when it's poorly expressed, uninformed bilge. But really, the centre of the universe must be a very crowded place.

I blame the parents - the ones who never discipline their children, because they're too special and precious and they're only expressing themselves, etc., while chugging the contents of the drinks cabinet and setting fire to the sheepskin rug at the age of seven. I blame the media: it's all about you... you're worth it. And so on. You'd have thought the emo kids would have a little more empathy, being in touch with their emotions and all. But no.

They're only in touch with their own wants (which they mistake for needs... they need an iPod, they need to go to McDonald's with their friends and hang around outside with their underpants on display while chowing on some ground-up carcass of an animal that was reared on land that was rainforest not so long ago). Selfishness? Well there's nothing wrong with that, it's what makes the you different... It's a tough world and if you don't stand up for yourself, then you'll get trampled on, need to get ahead in life, put yourself first. And so on.

But really, without dropping in a swathe of quotations to illustrate my point, suffice it to say that I for one feel quite uncomfortable reading in such detail about people's break-ups, their feuds, their long-running feuds with exes. I'm not saying that the personal can't be universal, and can appreciate unreservedly how, say, the blog of a cancer sufferer can be empowering and cathartic for both the writer and the readers, especially those in the same kind of situation. But that takes us back to the well-written blogs.

Such blogs transcend the mundane, and serve a real social purpose. This is one of the medium's great strengths: it has immediacy. Moreover, it connects the writer and their audience directly. But a good blogger writes the personal with an awareness of the universal. The bad blogger can't see beyond the end of their own nose and gives names and details that fall to meaningless due to a lack of explanation or context, instead focusing on the minutiae of he said / she said etc. and oh, the self-pity!

Believe it or not, I was a teenager once. I was prone to maudlin bouts, black holes of despair that would manifest themselves "artistically." Most of it was, naturally, bilge. Easy to say with hindsight, perhaps, but the difference between my scribblings - and those of countless others for decades, centuries, millennia - and those of the MeMeMeSpace generation is that they remained private.

Yes, we were embarrassed. A particularly cringeworthy diary entry would be torn out, shredded and burned the next morning, and no-one was any the wiser. Now, half the world's read about it by the time one wakes up, and I'm not entirely sure who's the more awkward and embarrassed, the writer or the reader. Certainly, as a reader I often feel I've overstepped the mark, and that I'm not gaining an insight into someone's life in a way that I can apply in a universal context, so much as stumbled into someone else's therapy session and been signaled to pull up a chair.

If there is a point to all this, or a lesson to be learned, it's probably this: think before you type and click to submit.
