Nowadays, people worldwide are connected with PC and hence the distance between computers is getting closer and closer and thereby dispatching documents can be done within a minute. Simultaneously, the viruses and worms penetrate quietly into the PC while going online without the knowledge of its user. Therefore, installing anti-virus software is essential to protect the files from being infected which will then put a PC in an unhealthy state. Here are some of the powerful and proven anti-virus software to help protect your PC in a secure manner.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.524

AVG is anti-virus software developed by Grisoft Company. It is the best free anti-virus software which has much improved design in terms of its usability, stability and highly impressive detection feature that has gained popularity among the computer users. In other words, millions of home users trust on its high level of detection capability to protect their PC from the attack of unknown and weird viruses. Due to its high detection on almost all the wild viruses, Grisoft has awarded VB100% Award by Virus Bulletin in February 2008. Not only that, AVG was rated as the second highest rating for user satisfaction for its free edition. Additionally, its quality assurance has been announced as the top downloaded program on CNET Download.com.

AVG anti-virus free edition is permitted for a home user and not for a commercial use. The software provides real-time protection and it is updated automatically so that you will be provided with a rapid virus database to alert you for any infected files. It handles the infected files safely and it never gets your PC slow down. It is indeed easy to use this anti-virus software that protects your PC against viruses, worms and Trojans besides protecting your PC against spyware, identity-theft, Adware, hackers, network intrusions, and sophisticated rootkit attacks. It is also furnished with an anti-spam feature to help filter out any junk electronic mails. It is by far the best free anti-virus software I have been using so far.

PC Tools Antivirus 3.6 Free Edition

This software is very useful to protect your PC against the latest fast-spreading worms and virus, such as Netsky, Mytob and MyDoom which can seriously infect your PC as they can be transferred to other person's PC who accesses your email contacts and computer's network. Additionally, these infections may allow hackers to steal your database from your PC, and later use it to launch threats against other computer's users or website or to send large numbers of SPAM mails. Therefore, it is always safer to use this software to keep alert of infected files.

Its real-time protection is trusted with rapid database updates and it is essential to keep your PC safer against any online threats and malicious infections attempting to gain an easy access to your PC by stealing your personal details. The suspected viruses, Trojans and worms will be quarantined, disinfected and destroyed thoroughly. It is worth using this software as it is free to use plus it has no time-limits.
For a direct download, please click here.

ThreatFire Free Edition 3.0.8 (Beta 4)

The chart clearly shows that ThreatFire's Active Defense feature has proven to provide up to 243% more protection when combined its usage with the traditional anti-virus products. ThreatFire is powerful software to detect and to stop any malicious and cyber-threats which include known and unknown spyware, adware, keyloggers, viruses, buffer outflow, Trojans, rootkits, worms and malware as well. This is its unique feature as compared to the traditional antivirus products as virus threats are sometimes remained undetected and thereby infecting your PC.

Six Simple Ways to Ensure That Your Computer Stays Safe

Anti-Virus

With the number of viruses out there, Anti-Virus software is the most important thing you'll ever buy. Choosing Anti-Virus software is also more important than you'd think. Not all anti-virus software is good; some are excellent, some are mediocre.

I used to have McAfee anti-virus, but one day a virus got on my computer that McAfee never found, it dialled phone numbers using my computer [since I have dial-up]. We then got a phone bill costing just over $800 CDN.

I then sought for help from my friend's dad, and he recommended Kaspersky anti-virus. I got that, and the anti-virus immediately found and deleted these viruses.

I've been using Kaspersky anti-virus for over 2 years now. My computer has never had a virus since and runs amazingly. It's an award winning anti-virus software, and is well worth the money.

Disk Defragmentation

Some of you have heard of it, some of you haven't; disk defragmentation is fast, easy, and will help your computer run fast. Every PC is equipped with a disk defragmenting program; this program is located at: Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter.

This program moves files around on your hard drive to free up space and make your computer run faster. Don't worry, disk defragmenting wont delete or change any of your files locations. Every thing will stay the same; the only difference is that your computer will run faster. It is best that you run this program once every month.

Anti-Spyware

Although Spy ware is not as bad viruses, it is still important to stay protected. Spy ware is basically a thing that finds out what you browse on the internet, etc. Some spy ware is dangerous, some is not; but to be safe, you should download an anti-spy ware program.

Most anti-spy ware programs are good, so finding a good one shouldn't be too hard. AVG is an example of a good anti-spy ware program. Keep in mind, there are free programs out there, but to make sure you are really safe, it's best to test out the free ones, and then buy the full version (most free anti-spy ware programs are a trial and have an optional full version if you pay, which, of course, are even better than the free ones).

Internet Browsing

Choosing an internet browser is important; there are several ones out there. Most computers come with
Internet Explorer
, however, Internet Explorer is known for not being a very safe inter browser.

Mozilla Firefox is the safest internet browser available, and is recommended to be used on many sites that Internet Explorer and other internet browsers have a hard time viewing. Firefox is safe, free, and updates itself frequently. Not only does it do all that, but Firefox also has many extra features, such as extensions (add-ons allowing you to do more with Firefox) and themes (allowing you to change the appearance of Firefox).

Passwords

No matter what, you should always ensure that your passwords are secure. Some people like to use simple passwords, some people even use password as their password. If you make easy to guess passwords, then it is your fault if your account for whatever gets hacked.

Passwords should be eight or more characters long, and contain symbols (*, =, %, etc.), numbers (7, 23, 8, etc.), and upper & lower case letters (H, P, g, F, s, etc.). Using names of pets, family members, loved ones, and so on, is a bad choice for a password. If your password is dog, Jane, password, etc. than you are lucky if you still have that account that you use that password on.

An example of a good password is this: $30K_CHEVelle. This password has symbols ($ and _), it has numbers (3 and 0), and it has a combination of uppercase (CHEV) and lowercase (elle) letters, and the password is 13 characters long, making it a great password. These combinations are nearly impossible to just guess, which makes sure your account stays safe.

So remember to keep your password safe by making is good like this. One last thing, never use the same password in many spots, as if someone hacks one account, they are bound to try the same password on all your other accounts. If you can't remember all these passwords, write them down on a piece of paper, and store it safely in your room.

RAM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is important to run multiple programs at once. If you are the kind of person who likes to listen to music, read your emails, download stuff, do some paper work, and surf the internet all at the same time, then you need lots of RAM to do this all.

RAM allows you to run more programs at once. If you have around 125MB of RAM, then you will probably experience a slow computer that freezes if you try running more than one program at once. However, if you have 1000MB of RAM, you will notice that you can run many programs at once. The more RAM you have, the more your computer is able to do.

Think of it this way, RAM = arms; if you trying to cook, repair and engine, play piano, walk the dog, and write an email at the same time, you will need at least 8 arms for that, and at least 10 to do it at a decent speed. Imagine someone trying to do this with just 2 hands; that is how a computer feels when you try to listen to music, browse the internet, watch movies, etc. at the same time.

So if you get more RAM, your computer can do it for sure. Keep in mind, most new computers have more RAM than you need, so this applies most for older computers (2+ years older in most cases). RAM is hardware, so you can't download it, you'll have to buy it from a store that sells computers.

Thanks for reading; I hope this article has helped you learn a bit more about how to keep your computer safe. There are many ways to keep it safe, but I find that these are the most important ways. Stay safe.

11 Truly Useful Websites to Stop Spammers From Bothering You

Let's first begin this article with the fact that I hate spam and I know that I am not alone in this. Spammers invade our personal space without warning and flood our Inboxes with hundreds and sometimes thousands of undesirable emails. It's all about making a quick buck, no matter who they hurt in the process.

As it already has been pointed out there isn't any silver bullet solution to stopping all of the spam that we receive, but there are ways to stopping most of it. Depending how bad a person wants to put an end to the problem these websites will help solve at least most of the problems that spammers inundate us with. Read on and use the tools provided here in this article and start living nearly a spam-free life, now.

1. Spaml

Using a disposal email address when filling out membership forms to your favorite website or forum will allow you to keep your real email address both personal and private from prying eyes. This is a fantastic and easy to use disposable email address proxy that generates its users a temporary email address, so to receive confirmation emails without having to give out your real email address to total strangers. This is not the type of email address that spammers want to bother with, because they are only good for one-time and then afterwards are disposed of.

2. Audit My PC

This website offers webmasters and businesses a free anti-spammers solution that will turn the spammers' world upside-down and inside out in just one-click of the mouse. Spammers often use Spam-Bots to search the web for email addresses to add to their databases, so to send out more spam. The Audit My Pc solution feeds these Spam-bots with fake email addresses that will make the spammers' email lists worthless and cause the spammers to have to clean out their databases and start over from the beginning.

3. Anti-spam Techniques

Wikipedia
offers a wide range of subjects and topics on just about anything that a person can imagine or would be interested in. This is an excellent article about anti-spam techniques that the average person could use to start stopping spam. The more that a person understands about spam and how spammers work, then the better chance they have turning the tables on the spammers that consistently make the Internet experience a living hell.

4. Arachnoid

Since learning as much as possible about how spammers work and how they collect our email addresses this website offers an impressive look inside the world of spamming. It offers additional solutions to prevent and protect your computer from spammers.

5. SpamCop.net

If you could report unsolicited email to an organization, so to stop spammers from sending you anymore-unwanted email, would you use it? SpamCop is an organization that allows private Internet citizens to report unsolicited email (spam) to and they will do the rest for you. This is a great little Internet tool that will surely cause some headaches for those anonymous spammers bugging us on a daily basis.

6. ASSP

ASSP has developed a nifty piece of anti-spam software that is easy to install, use and is free to use for personal use. It works with the SMTP server and stops spam in its tracks, before it can be dropped into your email inbox. There are so many features regarding this anti-spam software that this brief description just doesn't do it any justice. Visit the website and read the benefits for yourself and you'll agree with this statement.

7. MyTrashMail.com

Here is another Internet tool that webmasters and bloggers can use to protect your computers from spammers. This website provides users with a little piece of code that can be cut and paste to any web page and when spam-bots invade your personal space they are comforted with hundreds of fake email addresses that they carry back to the spammers' spam email database, thus rendering the spammers' email list worthless.

8. BlackMail

According to BlackMail their Free Anti-Spam Software is “a highly configurable SMTP mail filter that runs at a system level as a proxy to your existing mailer.” The computer program selectively rejects bogus or spam email during receipt and will block unwanted mail relaying, if your mailer is unable to do so on its own. This is an outstanding spam filter that checks against spam sites, spam keywords, RBL (Real-time Blackhole List) and much, much more.

9. MailWasher

MailWasher is an excellent email receiving and filtering program that allows its users to check and manage emails before downloading them into their computer. The email received will be stored on the Internet instead of being delivered directly into your computer hard drive. Users can choose to block, bounce, black list or receive the email that they receive with this easy to use anti-spam Internet tool. I have been using this program for years and I can personally testify that this is an excellent email and anti-spam tool to use. It is Free and fun to use.

10. Grisoft Free AVG Anti-Spam Software

Grisoft, the makers of AVG anti-virus and AVG Anti-Rootkit Free has done it again by developing probably one of the finest anti-spyware programs called AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition 7.5. This computer program scans your hard drive for spyware, malware and eliminates most spam instantly. This software is completely free to download and use for personal use only. I use it daily and it is honestly the best program of its kind that I have found, tested and used.

11. Virtu-Software “Spam”

Spam is not only a headache to receive and dispose of at times, but much of these unwanted, unsolicited emails contain promises of fortune, fake PayPal and eBay notices and other types of Spam scams that cost the world billions of dollars in losses every year. This website offers its visitors an opportunity to avoid becoming the next Spam Scam victim and gives its users the tools to spot and avoid the spammers' scam traps that they have set for the unsuspecting Internet user.

The more knowledgeable that the average Internet user becomes, then the less opportunity that the spammers will have to sending out their bulk spam to the world. While there isn't any foolproof way of stopping all spam at least there are tools and a wealth of information available on the web to save us time and money that these spammers are costing our businesses and personal incomes.

Today. Right now! We can take the power back from those spammers that have been consistently causing us to curse every time we open our email Inbox, just to be comforted with every sort of spam possible. The power is yours, so use it wisely.

Which Online Anti-virus Scanner is Best?

F-Secure Online Virus Scanner

No virus will survive against F-Secure. Program perfectly kills viruses, Trojan horses and backdoor programs. Spyware and rootkits has a better chance to hide from F-Secure, that's why I also recommend scanning your PC with an anti-spyware.

You should use Internet Explorer, because other browsers are not supported. If you are using Firefox 2, you can install an extension, which is called “IE tab”. It will make F-Secure think, that you are using IE.

Trend Micro Housecall

If you are being attacked by popular viruses, than you need to scan your PC with Trend Micro Housecall. This scanner easily finds and kills popular viruses. But on the other hand, rare viruses usually aren't found by “Housecall” and Trojan horses escape too. “Rootkits” has even bigger chance to hide from this program.

Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner

That is the only one scanner, which works with Windows Vista. It perfectly detects popular viruses, but most of the spyware, Trojans, rootkits and other pests were not detected. And we also need Internet Explorer to use Windows Live Scanner.

Softwin Bitdefender Online Scanner

It kills all popular viruses, but most of other pests were not detected. I recommend this scanner only if you don't have many free HDD space, because this scanner needs only 13 MB.

Panda Software Active Scan

“Panda” scanner will save us from popular viruses. Another good thing is that it scans our e-mail too. But on the other hand, this scanner doesn't perfectly detect Trojans and backdoors.

Symantec Security Check

“Symantec Security Check” is the worst online scanner. It perfectly detects viruses, Trojans and spyware, but the problem is that to remove any pests, you need to buy an ordinary anti-virus.
