Newgrounds

This site is awesome for wasting time! If you want flash movies they have them here in there hundreds. If it's games that you want, you will get such a bewildering choice of flash driven fun here that you will be unsure where to start! This site is a treasure trove for the sometime slacker. You will want to bookmark this site and return to it again and again. Just don't tell the boss!

The FWA

The FWA (Favorite Websites Awards) was established in 2000 and since then it has provided sustenance for those people hungry for flash-driven websites. It has a site of the day feature and also a site of the month. With over twenty categories to choose from you can narrow your search for the best flash websites in the world of web 2. This is most certainly one of those sites that you will find difficult to leave!

Electric Oyster

This is a Flash based Electric 3D engine and you really have to see it in action! It is a scrolling barren snow scape landscape and you can journey over it either by simply watching it or you can control the direction with your mouse. Add on a Jean-Michel-Jarre soundtrack and you have a slice of heaven at work! It is a very simple idea but one which will eat in to those minutes (and possibly hours) till five o'clock comes!

Face in a Hole

The name of this website says it all really! All you need is a picture of your face and you can slip it in to a huge choice of photos. If you have ever wanted to see how you would look with that perfect body or making a political speech to the masses, then this site is for you. The possibilities are (almost) endless. Of course you could place the faces of friends (or enemies) in to the hole and see how they look too! An amazing time waster for those without the will to work!

Superbad

This site will have you wondering why oh why oh why, but is almost compulsive. You clock on the links and a bewildering array of shapes and images appear - which you can click. So you do. It goes on and on - oh, and on. You may find it a little strange (just a little!) but you will look up at that clock and several hours will have passed. Don't say you weren't warned!

Tarot reading

If you like to idle away a little time in the pursuit of what may happen to you in the future then you could try a tarot reading. This site, unlike many others, offers them free. You choose a spread and then ask your question (this is an option - you can leave it unspoken to add that extra frisson!). The cards will then tell you your reading. Whether or not you "believe" in the tarot cards, this is nevertheless presents some pretty awesome idling opportunities which you can even spread by sharing your readings with your colleagues. Pretty soon the whole office will be doing nothing!

East Meets West

Choose your star sign and then this site will tell you all about yourself! IT is basically a combination of western and eastern astrology which come together to give you amusing personality profiles. What you already don't know about yourself you can "discover" here. Plus, there are eleven other signs for you to peruse before you go back to finishing that report!

Amanita

This is a strange trip to an alien planet. Use your mouse to play this interactive game. The time will fly as you try to figure out - unsuccessfully - what it is all about! If you are easily bored then this site is for you but you may get a little frustrated when you have to try and get yourself out of one situation and in to another!

Hoogerbrugge

Beautiful and strange, this website will allow you to waste lots of time doing absolutely nothing productive at all. However, you will be doing nothing while playing around with one of the more sophisticated and esoteric interfaces on the net. To many this will be the ultimate time waster! Go visit!

Exactitudes

This Dutch website goes out of its way to show you that people are people all over the world. Not only that they consciously or otherwise pigeon hole themselves in to certain ‘types'. Here you can discover what these types look like - from a distance in groups or individually. A combination of great photography and no apparent raison d'être this site will keep you happily people watching for ages!

Websites to Waste Your Week 13

It's lucky 13 for this issue, but hopefully you'll have good luck perusing the following links in the pursuit of wasting productivity at work.

How to Convert a Van to Vandwelling

Here's a great article about turning a van into living quarters for travel. Nice to think about at work, eh? Ol' SlackerDan here wouldn't mind travelling around the country, free to go where I drive. Many great ideas here on economizing space in a small van.

Get The Key

Another "escape" type game, and a lot of fun. How many keys can you find to open doors? The levels get progressivly harder as you go. Good luck!

The Wilhelm Scream

If you've never heard about the Wilhelm Scream, you'll find this article entertaining. Even if you know about it, the history about the Scream is quite complete.

Peter's Evil Overlord List

Funny article here about the things to do as an Evil Overlord. To quote the site, "#35: I will not grow a goatee. In the old days they made you look diabolic. Now they just make you look like a disaffected member of Generation X." Heh, good stuff. So if you've planning to become an Evil Overlord, this article will be indispensible.

Grid 1: Built with Processing

I'm not sure what the purpose of this website is, but it is mildly fun. Hey, it's better than working! Move your cursor on the map to make parts of it expand upwards. No points, no purpose, just "click and drag".

Plaster Casts from Pompeii

Another interesting article! In 79 AD the volcano Vesuvius erupted, covering the nearby city of Vesuvius and asphyxiating many people with volcanic ash. Centuries past, and it was discovered that plaster castings could be taken from the pockets in the ash long after the body had decayed away. In this article are many pictures of various castings.

Free Media Directory

This website is full of free icons for your use. There's a lot on this site that's free: fonts and image galleries, to just name a few. This well-laid out website is a lot of fun to explore.

Roxik

Every now and again I like to post a link to a particularly website, and Roxik surely is one of them. You create a character to dance and jump around, and other are doing the same. You can watch other user's creations dance to a very trippy and repetetive techno beat. So make some weird creature dance, dance, dance.

Canadians in Hell

Here's a great joke about two Canadians. Whether or not you're from the Great White North, you'll get a laugh from this joke.

The Dog Whisperer

In the fine tradition of the Website to Waste Your Week, here is a video. Warning: cute puppies ahead.

Top Five Time Wasting Sites

Digg

I know I check digg everyday. What you do is submit a link, if people like it they "digg" it the more "diggs" you have the higher it is on the website. The result is time looking at videos of cats or political gaffes or things about digg itself. Its a fun website with a "unique" community with "unique" views.

Addicting Games

With a fresh load of games weekly Addicting Games never gets old. I have twiddled away many hours playing such favorites as "Bloons" and "Bowman." They don't lie when they say these games are addicting, and plus they have so many it can and will keep you occupied for hours.

YouTube

Not exactly an obscure website by any means. I am not going to tell you what Youtube is because if you don't know you must have been living in a cave in Azerbaijan. The fact is that there are millions of videos you can watch. Some entertaining, some so horrible you wonder why they bothered making it. Youtube has its own culture and a huge community. You can spend hours watching original videos or videos of popular tv shows that have been illegally uploaded. Either way you could watch youtube videos for years without seeing the same one twice.

Wikipedia

This website has revolutionized the way we get our information. A completely free non-profit site Wikipedia is a true gemstone of time wasting websites. I have frequently been looking up something useful lets say "Mark Twain" and after tangents and links from Wikipedia I will most likely end up with the mating habits of elephants. I learn little from Wikipedia as I never read enough to actually learn about the subject at hand. But the bits I learn stay with me so I can spew it out and inappropriate times and get looks of disgust by my peers.

StumbleUpon

Stumbleupon is the mother of all time wasting websites. Well its not really a website but a tool bar you install that takes you to different websites depending on your interests, you just hit stumble. I have spent at least a week of procrastination just hitting stumble. Do not install if you are prone to procrastinate as this is like the reverse of riddlin.

What Happens If You Google Google?

That's right; it's the question on every internet guru, regular Joe Bloggs', expectant mothers and everyday internet surfers minds alike. What search results do you get if you google the word Google? To put you all out of your misery, here are the top search results for the word Google from Google's own Google Search Engine.

Results may vary.

News Results for Google

Up to the minute news on what is popular with the Google range of web and non-web products including the hugely anticipated Google phone and how many rupees it will cost the average Indian resident, will it out do the Apple iPhone, and how Google is giving somebody $10 million for the best idea for a new product.

Google

Somewhat strangely, the second result when googling the word Google on the Google Search Engine is the Google Search Engine. That's right; you are directly linked to the site you originally typed the word Google into. Yeh go figure!

Google Reader

If you are set up with a Google account then Google Reader lets you share and follow along with content that you are interested in including blog sites you have chosen to follow on Blogspot. This site also brings you the recent happenings within the world of Google.

Google Maps

Provides you with a range of mapping tools including street maps, satellite images and even traffic maps. Search the route you need by using the very effective Google keyword search tool. Interestingly when you enter the Google Maps site, the first map you are provided with is a map of the United States of America.

Google

Yes you guessed it, a link to the Google Search Engine's home page but with an international flair. Depending on the country you live in and your service provider, you are linked to the Google Search Engine which sets the results to the most popular and relevant sites in your country i.e. www.google.co.nz

Google Video

Google's equivalent to You Tube, Google Video lets you watch, upload and share video from all corners of the internet. Again a keyword search tool is provided for your convenience so that if it happens that you want to hear Sarah Palin's riveting talks, it's all at your finger tips.

Google News

Not quite the same as the number 1 result for googling Google but a feature that lets you view all of the top stories in the world of news and providing you with your own defined Google News Search Engine. Great!

Google.org

Pulls together all of the information and technology resources to address the world's issues. Number 1 on their list of issues to resolve: Climate Change! Follow the blog to keep up with Google's progress.

Google Groups

Use your iGoogle account to access Google Groups and join in with thousands of others discussing different aspects of life. Or alternately, create your own group and encourage others to join it. You might like to start your very own "Ban Skateboarding" group.

Google Wikipedia, The Free encyclopedia

Surprisingly very low on the list of what you get if you google Google as Wikipedia generally make the top five search results in any search but not when you google Google. Find out all you need to know about the workings of Google, its origins, history and more.

Google

Not again, this time it's the U.K. specific Google Search Engine homepage. So if you're a Brit, google your guts out right here.

So there you have it. The top search results if you google the word Google in Google's search engine. Your off to google the word Google now aren't you?
