10 Things I Hate About Blogs

Shameless self-promotion : Prove your worth through your writing and choice of topics. Most blogs are free, so it's not such an exclusive club. And sorry to burst your inflated ego, you're probably not the first person to have thought/written/found/analyzed your post's subject matter.

Comments from the peanut gallery : “Ur so dum i toataly dissagree.”

Pseudo-secrets : If you write about a secret that you are keeping from someone else, don't later complain (on your blog) about being found out. Remember, you can't hide the internet under your mattress or in a shoe box in your closet.

Writing that just takes up space with no motive or message.

Feeling dumber than when I started reading : What was the point of that post? Why did I read your blog when I could have spent time on something far superior, established and respected...like the New York Times or Facebook?

Bright colors and hard to read text : If you're not a designer, stick with a suggested color scheme and font size.

The word “blogosphere” : It doesn't sound cool, tech-savvy, or remotely appetizing. If the blog universe is going to keep up with the times, it needs a snazzier nickname. Sort of like what “web 2.0” did for “the web.”

Less is more : Subtlety is key. If my index finger tires from scrolling, you need a good editor or a ball-gag for your keyboard.

Top-10 lists : For that matter, Top-Any-Number lists. Making a list is a lazy excuse for poor writing skills. Remember essay writing? Intro-body-conclusion? Furthermore, there are inevitably fillers on the list, some of them irrelevant. See number 4 for example.

Poor grammar, spelling and syntax : Ever heard of proofreading? If English isn't your first language, don't write in it!

10 Proven Ways to Kill Your Blog

Don't post every day

One of the best methods to kill you blog is to post every few days. Even better, if you can convince yourself that 1-2 posts per week is just fine, you are on right way to decay.

Disable comments

Maybe you haven't thought about it too much, but sometimes you must enable comments manually if you want to allow people to respond and actively participate on your blog.

Use default template

This is another great way to make your rare visitors to move along. This is unfortunately very hard to do because there are many totally free blog templates waiting for you around every Internet corner, but if you try, you can make it and ignore them all.

Make all kind of promises

Trust between you and your readers have absolutely zero importance. You can promise what ever you want, new posts on subject, free links, do-follow enabled from tomorrow, anything!

Quality is for losers

Why bother with 500+ words articles when you can get away with two sentences and one link stolen from another blog. Nobody will notice.

Social Networks are waste of time

This is probably the best way to kill your blog. If you think that social networks are waste of time and can't help you with generating traffic, well think again. Waiting for page rank and search engines traffic may become never ending story. Be active member of web communities and people will appreciate it.

Don't comment on other blogs

This is also totally unnecessary since you are helping others to have more traffic when you should do something about yourself.

Don't learn from famous bloggers

Why you should read popular blogs, when they don't visit your blog? It must be some fraud they do to force others to come back again and again. You will show them all when you become more popular in few weeks.

Ads are never enough

Great way to destroy your blog completely is to offer advertising even if you have just started with blogging and all you have is 3 posts and 2 very funny videos uploaded. Bring them all together: bidvertiser, adsense, project wonderful, private ads! More ads more money!

Ignore your readers

There is no point in answering your reader's comment, especially if it is negative one. How dare anyone to come to YOUR blog and say something like that! You should not publish that comment in the first place. Also, why bother with that stupid blog design suggestion, you make all decisions, right?

Top 10 Awesome Websites That Sell Cool Products You Probably Have Never Visited But Need To

Many times on the internet, we find ourselves checking the same websites over and over, looking for some new awesome post or interesting link. Here is a great collection of uncommon websites that you may not know about, but they sure offer some very curious stuff.

1

Why it's cool: The Civilian Marksmanship Program sells the popular collector weapon the Greatest Generation used to save our arses from Socialism... i.e., the Nazi War Machine. Many kids these days will recognize the durable M1 Garand as a staple of Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games... but here, my friends, is the real deal. Nazi's not included.

2

Why it's cool:Only the coolest lasers in the world. Green. Red. Blue. Purple. You need not be a Jedi Master to get one of these. Available in several different series, you can even get ones that can start objects on fire. How cool is that? Bond. James Bond cool.

3

Why it's cool: Ever wonder what happens to those $500 hammers the government purchases? How about drug dealer's boats, white collar criminal's houses, overstock of useless and ancient office furniture from the 50s and all those little Swiss army knives confiscated by the TSA have one thing in common? They are now government belongings that have been sent to the auction block. Start with the GSA Auctions to get trucks, tools, jewelry, and just about anything else Uncle Sam has confiscated.

4

Why it's cool: Entertainment Earth is for the action figure geek in all of us. You want exclusive Star Wars figures? (Best. Movie. Ever.) Halo? Battlestar Galactica? Check, check and check! If it's anime, comic, cartoon, videogame or a cult movie, chances are good they have an action figure line. Chances are they have it here. Chances are you too find the Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons as perfectly normal.

5

Why it's cool: If you're a grocery store fiend like me you enjoy trying different brands or you get infatuated with a certain product that you couldn't live life without it (Thank you Taco Bell Restaurant Hot Sauce and 5-Alive). That is until your local store discontinues it because you were the only chump in a 100 mile radius purchasing it. Well fret no longer! MyBrands.com is the outlet to find that rare can of Ambrosia Creamed Rice you've been scouring the Net for. Score!

6

Why it's cool: Slow computer blues got you down? Does Vista make your computer feel like you're using an abacus? Beyond the usual tricks of the trade to tweak Windows, 4allmemory makes it easy and fast to identify what kind of memory options you can upgrade to. Even a n00b like me figured it out.

7

Why it's cool: Even though it's not an "official" rule in Monopoly we all know you put $500 in the middle for when someone lands on Free Parking. We also know that drunk strip Twister beats the pants off any video game. Unless you're that guy with the stained underwear on the Internet. Don't be that guy. Please. BoardGamesExpress offers up over 1000+ board games from mainstream to archaic. It's a Saturday night with a case of beer heaven site come true.

8

Why it's cool: Billed as the Ultimate Resource for Vintage Posters and they're not kidding around. If you ever wanted to dress up your single room rundown rat infested apartment into a posh upscale bachelor pad to rival any million dollar New York pad start here. The ladies will be impressed. Now you just need those cool thick black frame fake glasses. Don't worry about your hair. Messy is in.

9

Why it's cool: Ptoo! Ptoo! Toy guns were the staple of the 80s. This is the w00t site of them all. The coolest toy guns this side of the Atlantic, kick butt airsoft weapons, tactical gear, and even replica RPGs! Now you can get your Jack Bauer on and save the world all over. Warriors of the backyard unite. It's time to frag the slow kid. Imagination style.

10

Why it's cool: Low cost toilet paper direct to your door. What else do you need in life? Never leave home again! TissueDepot.com also features the unique Purely Cotton brand of 100% pure cotton bath and facial tissue. It's the only Tree Free brand in the world. That's some great ass wipe! Dingleberries need not apply!

Bonus:

Why it's a Bonus: The GreenHead site finds the strangest of the strange on the Internet. It's always been a must stop for the past couple of years to brainstorm gifts for that person that you're not quite sure what works better for them...an authentic New York Hot Dog Vendor Cart or a Wine Rack Drink Dispensing Secret Bra Flask. I believe it just links to the cool, strange sites that sell all these mysterious products, so that's why it got the Bonus mention.

Honorable Mention:

Why it's Honorable: I take for granted everyone knows the greatest shopping website on Earth. I'm flabbergasted when I get excited and go "w00t!" and no one knows what the hell I'm doing. They think I'm choking on a chicken and not in the way you just imagined you pervert. Woot.com is simply brilliant. One item per day, when it's gone it's gone. They have great prices and the items can be refurbished, new or just overstock. You never know. If you don't have a woot add-in on your Firefox you should really get it. Pretty soon you too can choke on a chicken by shouting "w00t!" during a woot-off.

Eight Incredibly Fun and Useful Websites You've Probably Never Seen

I'll guide your through 8 of my favorite online tools which I guarantee will improve your life (or at least make you smile!). You won't see this stuff anywhere else!

If you're looking for something rare or expensive on ebay, FatFingers is your new best friend. Countless auctions slip past everyone's radar because they contain typos or misspellings. FatFingers allows you to type in the correct spelling of any product you want, and it will automatically generate a search for you utilizing all of the most likely misspellings, saving you time and money.

Get non-partisan, unbiased straight facts about every political issue under the sun. Find out whether candidates statistics are true, or just rhetoric. Interesting, easy to use, and informative.

A fun way to find something new to read. Slide your cursor along a variety of spectra (happy -> sad, funny -> serious, short -> long, etc.), the website does some calculations, and spits out a list of title suggestions, complete with descriptions of the plot. If you live in the UK, you can even send an online request to borrow the book from a list of libraries.

Pick a mood from a list, it suggests entertaining websites to browse which fit your mood. Fun, and definitely enough variety to waste quite a bit of time.

This one's essential for me, since I love to eat but don't have a lot of time for grocery shopping. Type in what foods you have lying around and it pops out a tasty recipe you already have everything (or almost everything- if you're one or two ingredients short it'll generate a shopping list for you) needed to make. Many recipes even have reviews, you can be sure you're not making something that will turn our horrible. It can also recommend cocktails by doing the same thing with alcohol.

I like this because its completely free, doesn't require registration or installations, and has a large size limit (100MB). Allows you to upload any kind of files and gives you an ID code with which you (or your friends/family/whatever) can download the file anyplace in the world whenever you want.

Find free stuff in your community! Instead of throwing unneeded stuff away, people offer it online. If it happens to be something you want, you can claim it. This one is best for people who live in major metropolitan areas, but you never know. Everyone likes getting something for nothing.

Artsy types will love this one. Choose any color on the RGB/HSV spectrum and this nifty device will find you a collection of photos in which the primary theme is that exact color. Every picture it finds is 100% fine for you to use under the Creative Commons License. Great for webpage design, collages, and probably lots of other stuff too.
