People think they can make a critical argument about an article or movie, but instead they turn to name-calling and simply saying the other personal is wrong. Credibility is spoiled by personally attacking the person one comments against. Are all these comments necessary? I would say no. In fact, I would go so far to say the “leave a comment” box at the bottom of most sites shouldn't even be around. That little empty box is like a lure to some of the most disgraceful people who use the internet. Now, it is important to note that I don't disagree with comment boxes because I have received bad comments (which I have), nor do I disagree with them because uninformed people attempt to make arguments. I believe that the internet may one day be taken seriously as a source of information, and so long as the comment box remains, this will not happen.

It is always good to receive people's feedback on an article or video, especially if it is useful in that it helps the author improve in their works. However, I doubt very much that anyone can recall a comment that was actually constructive. Instead commentors criticize the author, or other commentors. This makes the internet seem less like a forum of ideas and development, and more like an arena in which insults, profanity and attacks on individuals are the only arguments that can ever be made. No matter how successful an argument may be, every person will always end it with an insult or curse word, which instantly removes any value the argument had.

I know the comment box will never go away, and it is even less likely that angry and lazy commentors will leave as well. So what is there to be done? I suggest responsibility. I believe the internet, and the people who use it, can benefit from comments, but only if they are well thought out, and well grounded. This means that everyone must restrain from their desire to call someone a “retarded dickhead ball-licker”, and instead focus their problems with the article or movie in question. There is never any ground to gain when the author is attacked. Such actions only inspire them to continue what they do in order to spite angry commentors. However, if one can point out the flaws in that author's argument, not only may the author benefit, but also the viewers of one's comments.

So please, comment responsibly.

Not every game is a hit, but games like Desktop Defender and Castle Wars will hook you and leave you wondering what happened to all that time you had. The site recently closed another round of funding and received an additional $5M, so look for bigger and better things from it in the future.

   This free music player lets you plot your mood on a spectrum and then creates a chart of songs to fit your mood. You can further narrow your results by genre, year, and whether the tunes are hits or not. It's a great way to discover new music and find the perfect tunes to fit your day. Watching Musicovery plot connections between artists and songs is also quite a lot of fun.

   The site collects the coolest fonts you'd ever need. DaFont features thousands of fonts, all uploaded by various users worldwide. Navigation around the site is straightforward: Simply browse for fonts either by the categories listed at the top of each page, or by searching for a font name. Most of these free fonts are compatible with both Macs and PCs.

   Here you can find lots of new or old movies and one of the reasons I like this site is because the movies are in DivX format which is very neat and clean for the most part. The site is regularly updated which is good, but also means that a new movie could be here today, and nowhere to be found tomorrow. It's best to keep a close eye.

   This is one site I'm definitely on whenever I have time to spare. It's a flash site with ton's of stick games and stick movies, a must have on your bookmark list. Check it out it's a guaranteed plus if you need something to do online, or have some time to kill.

   Simply the best site for currency conversion I've found to date. But that's probably because since I found this site I have no reason to look for another. It's complete, has all currencies, and is up to the minute... You really need nothing else...

7. Mess - For MSN Messenger Lovers

   
   
   This site is a must see for those of you that cannot be easily parted from your dearly beloved MSN. They have a bunch of add-ons, MSN betas, tweaks, etc. Be sure to visit and search through this site, you might end up bookmarking it too... You might also want to get Messenger Plus Live, an add-on for MSN that you'd wonder how u did without.

8. Freeware for Pocket PC - For Pocket PC Users

   
   
   The self acclaimed "largest Pocket PC freeware downloads archive." And to date I found no reason to doubt them. My HTC touch is loaded with applications from this site and keep going back occasionally to see if I missed anything. A must visit for those of you with a pocket pc that's in need of a makeover.

    An educational site, but your geek lings won't ever notice. The site features award-winning games, loads of fun, and the animated videos make this a popular choice with both school teachers and homeschooling parents. In fact, many parents prepare their children for standardized tests by using BrainPOP.

Very often professional movie critics have very different opinions from the general public. That's why IMDb is a great source to see movie reviews and ratings because you can see what hundreds if not thousands of people think of a movie, instead of just one or two critics. For instance, Juno got an average 8.2 stars out of 10 by 58,000 voters, and you can even see the gender and age breakdowns for the votes.

You also won't have a hard time finding what you're looking for: IMDb consists of the largest accumulation of data about films, television programs, video games and other media.

Product Reviews

It's hard to find trusted product reviews on the internet. ConsumerReports requires a costly subscription fee, Epinions.com is unreliable because they pay people to write reviews, and retail sites seem to have 5 star ratings for everything because they want to sell you something.

That's why Buzzillions.com is the most reliable and trustworthy product review site out there - they gather thousands of reviews a day from their 1000+ store fronts including Staples.com, Overstock.com, RadioShack.com, etc., and they show which reviews have been written by Verified Buyers - buyers who have been verified through the retailer to have actually purchased the product. Since the majority of the reviews are written by these Verified Buyers, you can feel assured that the products honestly reviewed.

Local Service and Restaurant Reviews

Ever been caught with an expensive dinner with crappy food, a mechanic that over charges, or a really bad haircut? Yelp is THE site to see what others are saying and how they're rating local services - everything from salons to dentists and doctors to restaurants and shopping. It's also a great way to find great hole-in-the-wall food places you never would have known about otherwise.

New and Used Car Reviews

Edmunds is by far the best site to read new and used car reviews. Buying a car (especially used) can be a really frustrating experience, and Edmunds is great for finding the true transaction price and ownership costs. Edmunds cuts through the chase and offers great reviews and valuable tips on both buying and selling cars. For instance, it tells you how the Kelly Blue Book was originally developed by a car dealer and can lose you a lot of money.

You can also search by zip code to find extensive information specifically for your geographic area. For example, when you've decided on a car to look at, they make it easy for you to request price quotes from car dealers in your area.

Videogame Reviews

Gamespot has been around for 11 years, and attracts some 2 million gamers per day. They have expert and community reviews on every console and pretty much any game you're looking for.

Music Reviews

Allmusic claims to be the most comprehensive music reference source on the planet, having a vast wealth of music information on even some of the most obscure albums and artists. You can find everything from old and obscure to popular and new, and read editorial reviews and in depth details from pretty much every genre of music.

They have an editorial staff as well as hundreds of expert contributors so you can find what you're looking for as well as great recommendations.

TV Show Reviews

While Metacritic has a wide range of reviews on games, books, and other categories, I see them as most useful and valid for their TV reviews. Why waste time trying to get into a TV show if everyone says it's not worth it? On Metacritic you can search for TV shows by season, see the "Best Of" rankings by year, and see ratings for upcoming TV show premiers. You can also see reviews by both critics and by viewers.

1. News Podcasts

   Every major news network provides some type of podcast, whether it's an audio file or video. Most networks provide their popular new programs in a shortened podcast format. This shortened format is great for people who want to keep up to date on news, but don't have a lot of time to do it. Examples of this are CNN's AC360 podcast and NBC's Today show podcast. But for those who want it all, some shows do offer the entire show in video, such as NBC Nightly News or Meet the Press.

2. Language Podcasts

   There is no reason to stop learning just because you are out of school. And what's better than learning a new language? Whether you are learning a new language for a trip you are planning to take, or if it's just to learn how to flirt in another language, it's a great and inexpensive way to challenge yourself. Many languages are available, from German to Japanese, Spanish to Italian. Some podcasts even offer websites for extra learning, such as JapanesePod101. Their website and podcast offer a total package for learning Japanese.

3. Movie Review Podcasts

   Don't know what movie to go and see this weekend? Not sure if some of the classics are worth buying? Check out some of the movie review podcasts available. These podcasts will not only give you movie reviews for those new and exciting flicks, but can also steer you toward the best of the classic movies available on DVD.

4. Cartoon Podcasts

   Want to relive your childhood? Try downloading a cartoon podcast, such as Vintage ToonCast. Vintage ToonCast allows you to download and view videos of old cartoon that are in the public domain. From the beginnings of Disney to Popeye's crazy adventures, you'll find it all here. Vintage ToonCast also has a second podcast with even more classic cartoons for the kid in you.
