More often than not, we can have trouble creating these. We can't think of a good word, or a personal nickname that would work, and occasionally, someone else has already taken our chosen username.

This guide will help the user choose a username to his or her liking. As there are many different “flavours” of username, I have dedicated a small section to two of the main ones. The steps to creating the nicknames (bullet pointed) can actually be used in any of the sections, and the "Generic Technique" section can also be helpful in both the Forum and Gaming sections.

Forum Usernames

There are possibly millions and millions of forums/BBS (Bulletin Board Services) out there on the web. To post and join their online communities, a username is required. Unlike some websites, many different characters can be accepted on these: such as ".", capital letters and spaces.

1. You can simply use your name. Some smaller forums have less members, so there is a high chance your given first name isn't taken. E.g Lisa, Robert, Mike.
2. If your name is taken, some like to add numbers to the end. It is often advised on many websites, some even providing a list of possible number suffixes to a particular word you can use. E.g Rose45, Jonny111
3. Nicknames are also an effective way of avoiding adding numbers. Nicknames specifically unique to you are a good choice, because it is more likely that people will not have chosen it. E.g DBomb, Schmitt, Jonjonn
4. Merge your first name and your last name. For instance, your first name may be Erica and your last name Askey. Askyra or Eriskey?

Gaming Usernames

Gaming usernames are different to a forum usernames, in the respect that it is not just the name that accompanies your post, but the name is attached to you in the game. People will derive nicknames from it, make assumptions about you as a person from it, and it will be stuck on your profile, or with your character, for life. Some people are careless with these nicknames, usually picking a name, or combination thereof that they fancy, and adding numbers to it.

This really doesn't say much about you, and if you want to create a truly effective nickname you can follow these steps. For characters in an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), a few people adopt a short and easy to remember name, others prefer to have a longer name, with a fantasy type essence within it - all in all, they can differ entirely. On other gaming websites, people simply like their names to be memorable and original.

1. Look through the dictionary, there are many interesting words in the dictionary that you can use, either as they are, modify some letters, use an abbreviation of the word, or add prefixes or suffixes to it. E.g Insipid, Rhychus, Amnesiatic
2. If you want your name to reflect the way you or your characters personality, use the thesaurus to find synonyms for different words. E.g For a brown character, you may name it SepiaT
3. For a truly unusual and completely made up name, pick some blends (fl, sh, cr) and some vowels (a, e, i). Merge these together, chop off some letters, and you may get: Fleshic, Shaer, Creflia
4. Or if you prefer slightly longer nicknames, combine two words that you like together. This is usually a very effective method for more popular websites which usernames are mostly taken by other users. I like the word Tentacle, and I also like the word Poison. I'd have PoisonTentacle, or vice versa.
5. Abstract phrases. Think of two or more words that fit together. This could be in a simple sentence, an exclamation etc. You can string them together, and result in: AnyCookiesHere, DeathOnLegs, YouAgain

Generic Techniques and Tips

1. Make lists of nouns, adjectives, miscellaneous figures of speech and just random words that you like. In my short one, I have: phobia, squirrel, sky/pretty, enigmatic, scary/totally, this, her. Out of this I can combine to make: ThisPhobia, EnigmaticSky, TotallySquirrel
2. The dictionary and thesaurus are your friends! Use them for inspiration to derive usernames from
3. Having trouble getting the username you want? If possible, try adding underscores "_", dashes "-", dots "." and if you have to, numbers "1234". Some sites don't accept all these characters, so be careful.
4. Replace some letters with others. And "i" can be replaced with a "y" if needed. And letters such as "h" can be added into the middle of a word. Spiral, is Spyrahl.
5. Prefixes and suffixes. I often use "-ia", "-ria" or "-na" to feminize names.
6. Use words from other languages. You can get the most fantastic sounding ones from everyday words.

1. You'll need website hosting so learn about paid-for and free web hosting and then decide which one you want. Do some research on suitable web hosts so that you can pick one that fulfils your requirements both now and in the future.
2. It's important to know what sort of website design you want to create. Is it a home page with just personal information or perhaps several pages with more detailed and varied content. Look at some personal websites and find a design you like and then write down how it's constructed. Use this as a template, then add and discard pages and areas until you have just what you want. This is hard work but it will save you a lot of frustration and false starts later and help you get the design right.
3. Look around the web at colours and layouts and decide what you would like to incorporate in your web design. If you're creating from scratch using your own software you can have almost any layout and colour you like but if you are using the tools provided by your web host, then you might have to settle for a template and modify that. Be sure you know what is on offer and try to make a definite decision. Again, it is far better to have a design plan even if you have to change it later.
4. Experience has taught that it is always better to create at least some of the graphics that you intend to use in your design at this stage. Preparing graphics involves selecting them, cropping to size, correcting for colour and contrast and optimizing as well as adopting a naming policy that you will later understand even when you can only see the file name of the graphic.
5. If you intend to create the site to make money then you must choose either the affiliate program you will use or what adverts you will show. If you choose to use affiliates you may need to register beforehand at the website or at the site of their agents. With adverts this it is not so crucial but you will need to work the space for them into the design and spent time sorting out the best colours and layout. You should also learn what size adverts produce the best result and finally ensure that the design looks right with dummy adverts in place.
6. If you will create your own articles or similar writing on your site then decide how much you will write yourself and how much you will use from other sources. If you intend to use other people's writing make sure you can get the articles you want without copyright problems. If you are writing your own, prepare them in a word processor, spell check and, wherever they come from, spend time extracting keywords.
7. Finally, and before you make a start on the web design, think about how you will popularise your site and what steps you will take to promote it. Assuming you are not paying for promotion, you will want to checkout forums, newsgroups, similar sites and register the site with various search engines.

Once you have done all this you have a good, solid structure, in fact a complete blueprint for a good web design. Now the job that you thought was hard - that of actually building it - will seem comparatively easy since all the pieces have been created and only require slotting into place.

   Every major news network provides some type of podcast, whether it's an audio file or video. Most networks provide their popular new programs in a shortened podcast format. This shortened format is great for people who want to keep up to date on news, but don't have a lot of time to do it. Examples of this are CNN's AC360 podcast and NBC's Today show podcast. But for those who want it all, some shows do offer the entire show in video, such as NBC Nightly News or Meet the Press.

2. Language Podcasts

   There is no reason to stop learning just because you are out of school. And what's better than learning a new language? Whether you are learning a new language for a trip you are planning to take, or if it's just to learn how to flirt in another language, it's a great and inexpensive way to challenge yourself. Many languages are available, from German to Japanese, Spanish to Italian. Some podcasts even offer websites for extra learning, such as JapanesePod101. Their website and podcast offer a total package for learning Japanese.

3. Movie Review Podcasts

   Don't know what movie to go and see this weekend? Not sure if some of the classics are worth buying? Check out some of the movie review podcasts available. These podcasts will not only give you movie reviews for those new and exciting flicks, but can also steer you toward the best of the classic movies available on DVD.

4. Cartoon Podcasts

   Want to relive your childhood? Try downloading a cartoon podcast, such as Vintage ToonCast. Vintage ToonCast allows you to download and view videos of old cartoon that are in the public domain. From the beginnings of Disney to Popeye's crazy adventures, you'll find it all here. Vintage ToonCast also has a second podcast with even more classic cartoons for the kid in you.

   If the idea of podcasts intrigues you, and you think you have something to say, try creating your own podcast. See if your ideas appeal to the podcast world. It's easy to do, and can be lots of fun.

What is MySpace?

MySpace is a Social Networking website, where you and your friends can upload photos/videos, write blogs, message and comment each other and make your own Unique Profile.

How Do I Begin?

To begin, you must first create your myspace at myspace.com . Just click the Sign Up button on the Main page. Follow the instructions and you're done! Congratulations, you have a myspace. You have just joined over 100 million members.

Okay, now what?

FRIENDS-

If you have friends that already have Myspace, you would want to add them. To do this click on the "Search" button next to browse. Go down to Find a friend and select the "Email" circle. Type in your friends email and add them to friends and wait for them to accept ?

PHOTO-

Now to make sure that people know that your profile actually belongs to you, you need to upload a photo of yourself, to do this on your homepage click on the “Upload/Change Photos” link.

Then click on the browse button, choose the photo you want then upload! Now you have a photo! (note. The 1st photo you upload becomes your default one)

MAKING YOUR MYSPACE UNIQUE-

Now that you have probably seen some peoples myspaces and seen their cool backgrounds, you are probably not liking your plain old boring background. To get backgrounds I suggest using these websites

On these websites, choose the Layout sections and choose which layout you like. To add the layout go onto your myspace, choose Edit profile and copy the code into the About Me section (unless stated otherwise).

MUSIC-

To add music to your myspace, click “music” in between Video and Comedy. Then search for your favourite band. Go onto their profile and add the song which you want from their playlist. Confirm the add! Now when people visit your myspace they can listen to your favourite song!
