The Never Ending World of SPAM

Every morning and evening I turn on my computer to check and see who may have contacted me by email. As I open my email I wait in anticipation excited to see which of my friends or family has sent me new pictures of the family, pets or just an email to update me about what is going on in their life. However instead of seeing these emails I am flooded by a crap load of spam.

It is common when my email opens to see no less than 75 emails in my spam folder and then another 20 in my regular inbox. I go through the normal process of deleting these emails while trying to retain my temper as I wonder why and how these spam emails are still getting through.

Like most people I use an outside email service that is supposed to have a spam filtering program or at least they advertise that they do. In fact now that I think about it my email provider notes proudly that they are committed to eliminating spam. If that is the case then why in the hell is it that every day I have to delete the same 75 spam emails from my mailbox that I did the day before? And I don’t do this just once a day but at least twice a day. Yes that’s right, I see more than 150 spam emails every day in my personal email and I am sick of it.

I’m sick of real and fake businesses trying to get me to open their advertisements. I’m tired of seeing spam emails advertising dating or offering for me to “see their pics.” I don’t want the same retailer sending me the same sales flyer three times in a row, just to make sure that I “don’t miss out on this sale.” And I’m tired of just getting the spam cleared out and just as I start an email another 5 spam emails land in my mailbox.

Is there any end in sight to spam or is this just what the world of emailing has become? And if this is what email has become is it going to move some of us back to the old way of communication – hand writing letters and sending via snail mail? I guess it could happen, if I can find where I put my pen and pad of paper as well as learn to wait a week or longer for those pictures or that note from my family and friends.

Spam, it really should only be that unknown block of mystery meat that comes in a can and not a bunch of bullshit emails in our inboxes.

You've Got Mail? Here's How to Stop Spammer and Chain-emailer

You've Got mail? Here's how to stop spammer and chain-emailer.

When you're going back and forth, messaging or emailing with someone who doesn't see to want to end the exchange, close things down by sending an unmistakably final salutation.

Try one of these:

- Have a good day.

- I'll get back to you soon.

- Okay, that covers it. I'm signing off now.

- Sounds great. No need to reply.

When people forward you jokes, videos, and chain letters, you can always delete them, of course. If you don't want to recieve virtual inbox cloggers at all, however, reply with something like, "Hey, I want to be excited when I see your name--but when you send me forwards like these, I just delete them, so I'll never know if you're sending a personal message." That should stop even the most avid chain-emailer.

How to Enjoy Emailing

Well, first you obviously need a ten Gigabyte inbox to do this (or some other high quantity inbox for your email, Gmail is good). I will include the best ways to use this feature in your inbox, including making folders, not deleting already read items, and just using it!

Using folders in your big inbox is a great way to enjoy your email. Instead of deleting your messages or searching for hours in your fifty pages of emails, create different folders to sort them by. Some good folders are: Funny, Business, Personal, Work, Entertainment, Family, and others. You may want to create your folders before you amass ten- thousand emails, so you can just file your emails as they come along. Remember, you might want more folders than just those, because even folders can become hard to find. Also, do not make your folders very broad like Life, or have over lapping folders like Funny and Hilarious, because they may cause you to have to look in both wasting your time. So start making folders!

Not deleting items is another way to enjoy your inbox. Even if you think you do not need an email anymore, do not just put it in the trash, file it in case you need it ever again, though you may not. It may sound stupid but it is worth it, in case you need proof of something or have reference. The only thing you should ever delete is junk mail, which is advertisement mail that is unnecessary and annoying. A way to avoid getting junk mail is by not doing online surveys, signing up for random programs, and giving your email out. Some email companies automatically put junk mail in a spam folder; saving you time (Hotmail and Yahoo).

Don't be afraid to send lots of emails to your friends, that is what it is for! If you are hesitant to email people, what is the point of having an email account at all? Even if it is unimportant or not necessary still do it. The worst that could happen if your email is not important is that someone answers your question. Also, try to check our email often, so you do not get backed up with emails. If your are finding that you are getting mass junk mail, you might consider switching to Yahoo! Or Hotmail or putting a filter on your email account so those will not bug you anymore. Putting a filter on your email may be better than switching emails because your friends may not know that you switch.

I hope you enjoyed reading this article and it was helpful to you. Now you should now know how to enjoy your emailing even more, and with lots of space! Thank you, and please rate this good.

If you could report unsolicited email to an organization, so to stop spammers from sending you anymore-unwanted email, would you use it? SpamCop is an organization that allows private Internet citizens to report unsolicited email (spam) to and they will do the rest for you. This is a great little Internet tool that will surely cause some headaches for those anonymous spammers bugging us on a daily basis.

6. ASSP

ASSP has developed a nifty piece of anti-spam software that is easy to install, use and is free to use for personal use. It works with the SMTP server and stops spam in its tracks, before it can be dropped into your email inbox. There are so many features regarding this anti-spam software that this brief description just doesn't do it any justice. Visit the website and read the benefits for yourself and you'll agree with this statement.

Here is another Internet tool that webmasters and bloggers can use to protect your computers from spammers. This website provides users with a little piece of code that can be cut and paste to any web page and when spam-bots invade your personal space they are comforted with hundreds of fake email addresses that they carry back to the spammers' spam email database, thus rendering the spammers' email list worthless.

According to BlackMail their Free Anti-Spam Software is “a highly configurable SMTP mail filter that runs at a system level as a proxy to your existing mailer.” The computer program selectively rejects bogus or spam email during receipt and will block unwanted mail relaying, if your mailer is unable to do so on its own. This is an outstanding spam filter that checks against spam sites, spam keywords, RBL (Real-time Blackhole List) and much, much more.

9. MailWasher

MailWasher is an excellent email receiving and filtering program that allows its users to check and manage emails before downloading them into their computer. The email received will be stored on the Internet instead of being delivered directly into your computer hard drive. Users can choose to block, bounce, black list or receive the email that they receive with this easy to use anti-spam Internet tool. I have been using this program for years and I can personally testify that this is an excellent email and anti-spam tool to use. It is Free and fun to use.

10. Grisoft Free AVG Anti-Spam Software

Grisoft, the makers of AVG anti-virus and AVG Anti-Rootkit Free has done it again by developing probably one of the finest anti-spyware programs called AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition 7.5. This computer program scans your hard drive for spyware, malware and eliminates most spam instantly. This software is completely free to download and use for personal use only. I use it daily and it is honestly the best program of its kind that I have found, tested and used.

11. Virtu-Software “Spam”

Spam is not only a headache to receive and dispose of at times, but much of these unwanted, unsolicited emails contain promises of fortune, fake PayPal and eBay notices and other types of Spam scams that cost the world billions of dollars in losses every year. This website offers its visitors an opportunity to avoid becoming the next Spam Scam victim and gives its users the tools to spot and avoid the spammers' scam traps that they have set for the unsuspecting Internet user.

The more knowledgeable that the average Internet user becomes, then the less opportunity that the spammers will have to sending out their bulk spam to the world.
The power is yours, so use it wisely.
